Great recap!!Kagel's was the most clutch, probably the best clutch moment of the year. 3 FT's with virtually zero on the clock...on the road. Not bad for a kid who was overmatched offensively and especially defensively almost every time he stepped on the floor. No offense Todd, cause you sure had big coconuts. (He also hit the 3 the year before that broke our undefeated in reverse streak)
Vandegarde's was the most dramatic...MVC tourney, game over, running off the court, wait, not so fast, come back out, ya got fouled Mike here's 2 freebies. Rudy Washington had a strong dislike for anything ISU-related and he was convinced (literally) the MVC admin played faves with us. Plus Vandegarde was the kind of player the opposing team AND CROWD strongly disliked. Perfecto. Bite me, Rudy. Although if I were in his shoes I would have been ballistic about how the call went down.
I don't remember T-Dub's off the top. But among my favorite players ever because of his dog defense - and - for frustrating more opposing players than any other ISU player I've watched over decades. Plus he drove the biggest POS car I've ever seen in my life...no exaggeration...with the Illinois license plate reading "My BMW 92." I laughed so hard I had to pull over and cry. I think it was blue...couldn't really tell. Looked like a bomb shelter. This car was the definition of POS and he should have been arrested (or given an award) for having the gusto to drive it.
Most exciting? Hands down Richard Thomas pull up from 30 and buzzer goes off while ball in air. At Redbird. Close to capacity. Richard wasn't flashy and not the crowd-energizer like Paris...but you compare his senior year stats to Paris Lee senior stats and there's not much difference. Offensively and defensively. Career stats it's practically a draw. RT shared PG position with Wemhoener, otherwise his assist total would have been higher.
Thanks for the memories!
Great recap!!
Two MVC titles and they couldn't even get a NIT bid. They may have been overachievers but at least one trip would have been a great reward for them. These days the regular season conference Champs get an auto bid to the NIT.
Richard Thomas is one of those underrated players. He was a key contributor off the bench his freshman year on a team that went to the NCAA.
We were at that game and you are 100% correct. It was a great atmosphere. I loved the alley oop to MiKyle near the end of the game. RBA erupted!!
We are slowly getting more and more games. We will see if we can get thst one.
We just recorded Podcast #10 and should have that posted early next week
We are going to try and get one but in the meantime this might hold you over for a bitSome games from the Osiris era would be fantastic as well.

:54 seconds in to above video...and separate video same play different angle, below...this is the best spur of the moment offensive move I've ever seen in Redbird. Video doesn't give it justice. Seeing it in person is always double the video effect. Absolutely spectacular reactive move. Thx for memories Osiris! Come coach for us!
It is WAY old, dude. It's an incredible turn off. Even Steph is beginning to irritate me. Wilt, Cousy, West, Baylor, Robertson, Pistol, Erving, Iceman, Alcindor, Earvin, Larry, MJ, Shaquille bringin down entire backboard and support...good Lord even Chocolate Thunder and World B Free (most fun jump shot in the history of the...wait for it...WORLD) didn't celebrate much. One of the things I really enjoyed with Osiris was that he never flexed, never posed, never screamed, etc. after a sensational play . . . he just got back on D. I get that it's part of the game now, but it gets old . . . especially seeing guys flex after a nice play when they're getting their asses handed to them.
That's awesome! Sad to hear about ISU thoughI ran into Mikyle McIntosh today at the Atlanta Aquarium. He just got back from playing in Australia. His face lit up when I told him I was from ISU. He said he lost his connection to ISU with Muller being gone. He would be a great guest to bring back into the Redbird fold.
We are working on expanding our connections with the more recent players. Let me work on this oneI ran into Mikyle McIntosh today at the Atlanta Aquarium. He just got back from playing in Australia. His face lit up when I told him I was from ISU. He said he lost his connection to ISU with Muller being gone. He would be a great guest to bring back into the Redbird fold.
He's on this week's episode with Sarge. Baker from MarchToTheArch Podcast is also a guest. Hope you enjoy!!What about Quinn for keeping this place going? Maybe try to get someone on the Red Alert board. Bridge the gap from the past to current? Just a couple ideas that don’t really need their own shows but could be more of a couple smaller hits.
