Great interview with the boys. I was a little nervous about what stories Brian and Mike may have shared but luckily it was mostly about the message boards. I am so glad I stumbled across this place during my time as a young college student and have been able to be a part of it almost since the beginning.

In BirdFans4Ever episode 11 we spotlight some great forums for @Redbird_mbb Brian Leggett and Mike Quinn from the ISU Fan Board and John Baker from the MarchToTheArch Podcast talk about how they got started and their forums.

Just finally caught this one. Thanks Brian and Mike for all of the countless hours you have put into the site. It's what has kept me connected to ISU basketball over the years. John, Great work on your podcast!

I had been reading and posting for maybe a year before I met Brian/Sarge at Buck Bradleys across the street from the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.

What a letdown.😀

Fortunately, that was back when I could still drink. Not that anybody's wants to know, but I haven't had an ounce of alcohol in more than 12 years because of meds that my oncologist and neurologist have prescribed. I have told them that if the problem would be a dangerous interaction between the meds and alcohol, I would be willing to stop taking my meds, but they are not very open-minded about such things.

Anyway, before getting clobbered by host school Marquette, the Birds had won against a Big Ten team (Penn State) and an SEC team (Ole Miss). That was one of 3 times that I know of when we beat Mississippi, including once in Horton Fieldhouse, once at that neutral site in Milwaukee and the third time on their home floor in an N.I.T. Tournament.

Seriously, big thanks to the creator and maintainer of this board. You may never know how many times you have provided me with a reason for not getting work done on time.

Congrats on the 12 years. I’ll be at 33 years in November. My reason was because alcohol became a toxic allergen for me (major hives, elevated body temp, shortness of breath, & serious sweating after a single swallow of any alcohol). My wife says it’s cuz I drank too much in college . . . which I can’t really argue against . . . I do find it funny how many people are mortified when they learn why I don’t drink, like it’s the worst possible allergy one could have. I could understand if it was chocolate . . .

I wish someone had a copy of the home win vs The Trees in ‘87-‘88. Sonny Roberts had a great game with some Kevin McHale like post moves. He was awesome that night

Jay is an absolute fantastic individual. I've had several convos with him since he left ISU. I haven't listened to the podcast yet, but can't wait. He and Bender were HS rivals, same conference, Lowenthal perhaps being the second best guard in the area behind the All-American Bender. Hek he played at Vandy for peter's sake. Very cool how they ended up together and that was a very very tight knit staff.

Speaking of...listen to this. At the time of their hires...Bender was 31 years old. Lowenthal was the same age. Ray Giacoletti was 27. Duke's Billy King was 23 yrs old. (Bob Morris was the "part-time" restricted earnings coach in his mid-40's)

It was a young DYNAMIC staff. I've often wondered if there has ever been a full-time staff...at the D1 ISU-level and above...that young?! Probably. But wow.

Had Jay gone with Bender to Washington, he probably would have ended up a D1 head coach.

BTW, the coaches would play full-court pickup over the lunch hour in Horton and it was fascinating to watch.

Go Birds and thank you Jay!👊
