I am getting very tired of mullers excuses that he cannot coach these players (he picked them) and even more tired of the minute distribution and the constant subs. Play 6 guys for 30 minutes or more and let the others share 20 minutes. Hein cannot be on the floor. He is not even D2. 3 airballs out of his 1st 5 shots. Sure he plays hard but not near enough talent.

Not surprising that we lost but giving up 100 points to a team starting 3 freshman is NOT acceptable. We were schooled on the floor. The final margin was closer than the game I watched.

Disappointed in Baltimore....

Isn’t that cute. A “participation” type of trophy, tweet.
“Talented” doesn’t mean we play smart, play as a team, are well coached, or realizing our potential. We clearly have talent, but there’s more to the game than just basketball skill. Belmont’s game went beyond talent to other intangibles, and that’s why they smoked ISU. I don’t think Byrd was being saracastic. That’s not his style.

You hit the nail on the head. You sure as heck can’t have Gassman, Hein and Tinsley on the floor together. That’s a defensive dream. Not to mention the offensive unit of the other team is licking their chops. Muller said he was going to tighten the ship and have a shorter rotation. Until that happens...the results won’t change against better competition. Yeah, we will whoop Chicago State...but who cares.

Muller failed when he didn’t bring in a Juco Big. Too late for that now. We need to work the rotation of...

Evans
Jefferson
Copeland
Yarborough
Fayne
Tinsley (15-25 minutes)
Gassman (5-10 minutes)
Rey (5-10 minutes)
Chastain (5-10 minutes)
Hein (0-5 minutes- only if desperate)

The top 5 need to average close to 30 minutes or this will be a long season.

“He just doesn't compete and he's not coachable. That happened last year a bunch of times. I'll do it again,” said Muller of benching Yarbrough for long stretches.

I know Yarbrough is good. But I can’t root for him on an individual basis.
What did Dan expect? This was true of MY in HS and at SLU. Did he not view any film or talk to previous coaches? Just cut him loose. Why keep dealing with it everyday?

Every one of Mullers teams has a whooping boy! It’s kind of ironic...Tyler Brown, Lofton, Hawkins, and now Yarborough! It sounds like Muller needs adversity in his life. The sad part is the whooping boy looks to be the most talented kid on the floor.

First of all I am really glad Dan called out his team for being soft. Frankly thus far they are and were last year. They compete only in stretches. Second it is definitely time to rip MY a new one. He's had MULTIPLE chances both on and off the court. He's an elite talent physically but he just hasn't shone that talent intellectually or emotionally to this point. He's got an opportunity to do something really special with his life. If he thinks the NBA will put up with this kind of stuff he's wrong. They would pay him big bucks and expect big effort in return. He's elite on level but there are many as talented as him who have the DESIRE on the next level. I really hope he figures it out but after two years of this shit I am doubtful at this point.

Maybe Dan should stop recruiting soft players. It's not like they are becoming soft once they arrive here and if that is the case, the coaching and culture are the problem.
MY will not see 1 second on a NBA floor.

I know Yarbrough is good. But I can’t root for him on an individual basis.

My issue with MY this year is something I didn't see much until the end. After every single good thing he does, he starts pounding his chest yelling. A lot of the times when he does it on offense he doesn't get back on defense. I think he is overly talented, but I think he needs to get out of his own way.

Other thoughts on the game last night

-- I said it after the Auggie game, but teams that shoot the three well will feast on our defense. We don't rotate well, double the post too often (see the next bullet). Fix that, we will be alright, don't and teams like Belmont are going to be Homer Simpson style slobbering to play us. Hein and Gassman aren't the problem, this whole team is average at defense on their best nights. Losing Yak is probably Muller's biggest loss at the moment.

--At some point we need to have more than 1 or 2 guys in the rotation over 6'6. It's really nice to have tall, athletic wings, especially if they can ball and play. But, with that we are constantly having to double the post and leave 3pt shooters open. We are also going to end up getting killed on the boards. We need some height, badly.

--Good news, offensively I thought we looked fairly good, and if you'd have told me we'd score 89pts and lose by double digits, I'd have said you were crazy. If we can keep this kind of offensive efficiency up, I think we will win more games than we lose, despite or glaring defensive liabilities.

--Phil is probably the best overall player on this team, both in skill and attitude. Offensively we should be feeding him early and often in the post and letting him attack. Defensively, I think we should let him play more 1 on 1 against the other team's big man. If he gets beat, so be it, but at least we won't be giving up open 3s. That said 2 rebounds is unacceptable. Boxing out is his weakness, and that's what I would work on.

--Copeland is going to probably be the 2nd best (or 3rd if MY gets his attitude right) player on this team by the end of the year. I think he needs to stop and pop more as he has a deadly jumper and can create his own shot.

--Key looks uncomfortable at times. I don't know if it is because he hasn't fully healed from injuries, or if his role has changed, but his shot looks off, and he looks like he is forcing things constantly.

--I'd let Jefferson start, and run a few more plays to get him open from 3. He is easily the best shooter on the team.

--We need to play Rey more. Good or bad, he needs the experience these games will bring, and he can guard the other team's posts.

Coaches need to mold their talent. Not everyone comes from the same walks of life. If you can’t form relationships with multiple attitudes you are probably destined to be a top assistant. Teachers would love to have kids that have the same skill level. They somehow manage.

Message to Milik Yarbrough. Dude you are so so so so far from leading like Custer does. This....more than any single thing.....will hold The Illinois State Redbirds back.

You only have a few games left and you will NEVER sniff the NBA acting like this and playing like this.

Get it fixed right now. Last chance.

More than anything, stop focusing on the last play, and start putting ALL of your energy and focus ALL of the time on the NEXT play and the NEXT play after that. NO ONE cares about the last play (good or bad).

Then you probably want to kick 80% of high school, college, and nba players. Basically everyone does it

I don't care if you don't like me. I don't know many times I have to say. I don't call anyone on his board names, however. All I ask is you to stop loving Dan because he's an alum. Look at this body of work. Only real success was with yak. He's a better version of Paul lusk. A great recruiter but can't motivate or coach. He's lost control of the team plain and simple. Just admit that.

wow, really disappointed, but never thought we would go undefeated. Afraid we are in for another so-so year, beating some good teams and losing to bad ones. Must beat Loyola or SIU in St. Louis.

Sorry I paid for ESPN + for the season, but still can't help watching the games.

One question: who is posting in place of ISU FAN 1 ?
