I don’t post here often. I am an ISU grad but a big UW fan. For those reasons I hate this game. Here is some insight on UW. Side note- we cancelled our last game due to Covid so we’re not really sure who is playing. Here are the starting 5:
C- Steven Crowl- 7ft soph- can stretch the floor and hit from the outside, not very strong in the post, good passer. 3pt% has not been good and has been somewhat of a disappointment,
PF- Tyler Wahl- 6’9” JR- a poor man Ethan’s Happ. Can rebound, pass, block, steal, and score in the post. He is very patient with the ball. Decent FT shooter but poor outside shooter.
SF- Johnny Davis- 6’5” soph- this kid has a motor. He’s good for 20 pts a game. He’s comfortable attacking the rim and shooting from anywhere on the floor. Excellent mid range game. Avg 3pt %.
SG- Brad Davison- 6’3”- 5thyr sr- gritty as hell. Doesn’t attack the rim much but has done it on occasion. Not a strong mid range game, strong 3%. Reminds you of someone who would have played under Dick Bennett.
PG- Chucky Hepburn- 6’ FR- good ball handler, excellent defending. Not much of a scorer and when he does score it’s usually attacking the rim.
Bench
C- Chris Vogt- 7’- SR- Strong rebounder, avg big man on defense, no outside game, can score inside 5 ft but it usually getting his points off offensive rebounds. He’s starting to get more minutes than Crowl
F- Ben Carlson- 6’10” SO- not sure what to make of him. More of a slasher. He’s not one to post up in the lane. Can hit from the outside but hasn’t shown it this season. He’s coming off of major back surgery.
F- Carter Gilmore- 6’5” SO- meh, good defense, hasn’t shown anything on offense.
G- Lorne Bowman- 6’1” FR- he did post on Twitter he has Covid before Christmas. Not sure he plays. Good shooter and can attack the rim. Likes to hunt his shot and not afraid to pull the trigger for 3. Decent shooting %.
G- Jacobi Neath- 6’2” JR- he has been injured and then was sick so is lacking in playing time. Not a great shooter. Can get to the rim. He seems raw still in a new system. He transferred from Wake Forest.
overall- UW is pesky on defense. I image Reeves will get some buckets, but points will be hard to come by for the Redbirds. UW usually cleans up on rebounds and the guards aren’t afraid to rebound as well. UW don’t foul much. The pick and roll defense has some holes in it but they switch rather well. UW struggles guarding big men down low but I don’t think ISU posses that type of threat. I’m talking EJ Liddell at Ohio St type big men.
Offensively UW is not a good shooting team. Even from inside they will miss bunnies. UW is a decent FT shooting team. UW doesn’t turn the ball over. If ISU wants to win this game I am going to steal a line from Clark Kellogg, 3s and frees. ISU will need to force UW to hit 3s, which they aren’t good at, and I expect UW to force it in and make ISU hit 3s as well. And if ISU can get to the line, make your FT. The crowd at the Kohl center has been meh..and it is break so I don’t expect much as far as students.
If UW has all their player I expect them to hit the 16 point spread, but if they are missing multiple players still with Covid it could be interesting. UW has been off since December 15. Winning at UW would be huge for ISU. My one fear if that happens is it might keep Dan around for another year.
hope that gives you all some insight on Wisconsin.
