How about stop passing the ball to a player in traffic with 3-4 defenders around him........ Why??? Drives me nuts. Same with not grabbing the ball on defense - trying to dribble right away instead of securing the ball first.

After game coach quote. “ alot of our turnovers are because we are jumpy and unbalanced”

I agree he’s passing up way too many shots. He’s turning it over too much today also. He just go too long between shot attempts to be more of a help on the offensive end. The other thing I see is he rarely ever gets it when he’s wide open. I’ve said before this team doesn’t have good basketball eyes.
They don't look for Sandage enough either

Burford is the best athlete on the team. 6 rbs and 3 were offensive in the paint with the tall dudes! Would like to see a shot chart how many sbots in the pzint we missed. Knight and Lewis have really been struggling down low. Neither are really natural post up guys.

It certainly wasn’t pretty at times, but a road win is a road win. This team has fight and can’t ever question that. Hopefully this shook some of the losing streak demons and we can see more of that quality play we saw before Christmas.

Much like Ron Jeremy, there were some good spurts. Still some bad stretches where we forget how to play. Mayor McCheese handed two bunny passes to our bench late in the game. Plenty of bad ones to go around, those two just stuck out. He had his share of good plays too

Mostly we played well down the stretch so I'd call this an improvement.

Poindexter and Burford played well for the most part

Lewis gave a couple of flashes, but was largely nonexistent.

We play better when the opponent wears sleeves

Evansville is 320th in the country in three-point percentage.

What a selfish, ridiculous push by Lewis in the scrum. I hope his scholarship is available. Some leader.
Refs missed him getting elbowed in the face - then missed it again on replay review. Ideally he doesn’t respond but I guaranteed that hurt and all he did was push the guy away and looked like he was saying “what the hell???”

If he takes a swing or starts a brawl I’m with you 💯 but officials made something out of nothing.

I’m more troubled by how casually he held the ball under the basket, while no one alerted him to the man literally on his hip dislodging it.

It's great that they're trying to do the right thing and play team ball, just hope they get better at it. Always nice when you can count on the free throw shooting, always frustrating when you can count on turnovers.

I missed the end of the game. I threw a brick at my tv and busted it when that pass happened.

Speaking of a brick, I wonder how Brick is doing?

And it was still a bad shot. And bad shots are turnovers that aren’t listed as turnovers. Forgive me, but you seem to be suggesting it’s okay for Mal to be selfish, but not the others? Really?

Don’t get me wrong, I like Mal. He’s a gamer. He’s calm. He plays good “team” ball. He’s ice at the line. But time and situation need to be considered when taking that shot. That was not the time or situation to take that shot. Fortunately, it didn’t cost us.
I’d typically agree with you and was yelling the same thing at the TV, but in retrospect, I’m wondering what would be different if there was 2, 3 or even 4 teammates in the front court- because they don’t go to the boards after a shot. Until they figure out that they need players crashing the boards, they are totally dependent on the 3 and ft’s.

Finally a much better first half, and we were able to stave off their runs and close it out in the final 5 mins. Had we had another dogshit first half and spent most of the second clawing back, we may not have snagged this one. But no matter. Wins are wins, and road wins are even better.

Squeaking out a win against a hideous team is about the best we can expect this year. I still think they will put together a total game sometime this season and surprise someone. But we’ll be Thursday night and out this season. At this point I am looking at who Pedon keeps and who he can recruit. That will be the tell. Goal-NCAA appearance in 4 years.

Even with the new Thursday format, this team can win a game before playing one of the better Valley teams. Assuming Redbirds only finish ahead of UE in a worst-case scenario, who as a 6-seed would you say is unbeatable in STL? Get the right officials and we can win a game at the line, if nothing else.

But I see your point: it’s hard to win a do-or-die game without a true PG or post presence. Pedon will fix this in the offseason. NCAA appearance can happen faster nowadays with all the transfers.

Hopefully by Year 4 we’re looking to sustain a run in the top half of the Valley.

I’ll take this outcome over last year at UE: losing both the game and Sy Chatman, which killed what had become a high-octane offense.

As has been said, a win is better than a loss. Our Birds likely wind up with the 9 seed and play the 8. Today that is Drake. I doubt it stays that way. Which one of the current six teams who are now 4 and 2 teams drops to 8th is anyone's guess. My guess is UNI.
