It was the 40 year reunion for the Trees, but who's counting :)

There is a big effort to get students there Saturday.

Thanks Mel I missed that one. Is that when they had their legends at the game?

largest crowd for any MVC game this year is us at Bradley 7100ish. Would love to beat that.
Keep in mind Bradley reports tickets differently than us. So they sold 7,100 tickets to the game. There were def not 7,100 ppl in the stands during that game.

I agree... I was at the game and I don't believe there was 7,100 ppl in the stands. It kinda ticks me off that the MVC teams are allowed to report the numbers differently. That makes no sense to me.

The sad part of Indy State's ff year being 40 years ago is that I remember it well. I was already graduated and a Redbird season ticket holder by then. I was actually encouraged when Mel said it was 30 years ago. Then I realized, oh, crap :)

Yeah BU counts tix distributed. I think this is kind of sketchy, too. But I was recently sent a link regarding the struggles of the PAC12 with attendance. They count tickets distributed as well.

That is not even close to 2,000 people!! And we think our attendance is bad.

I'm watching Temple at Houston now and there are a lot of fans there dressed as empty gray seats. Houston is 20-1 and ranked 13th in the country.

@bbfan and @cpacmel

40+ years of ISU fandom?!? Wow. If you don't mind, I have questions.

What was the fan experience like back then, and how has it evolved / devolved over the years? How did fans initially take to RBA? What were the most memorable games?

My son, who is a Senior, is telling me - this is the biggest push/promotion efforts in his 4 years by the Athletic Department to get students to the game on Saturday night.

Social media promotions (I can easily say, I have no idea what that entails), Muller Bobbleheads, free pizza, and the MBB twitter and facebook says there are 545 FREE tickets for students at the Redbird Arena ticket office thanks to donors starting at 9:00 am Friday. In addition, Muller made a video that was sent to every student.

I know on the post-game show - Muller wants 10,000 - besides the importance of the game, maybe a recruit or two will be at the game.

SoCal, my brother took me to my first ISU game in 1967. I have been hooked ever since. I can say that every era has been fun, exciting, intriguing, frustrating and at times, even heartbreaking. We have always been good, at the very least interesting. We have rarely sucked. We have not had the longer stretches of losing records like most programs. Our teams have had ways bringing me right to the edge, then pulling the rug out from my feet. That's where the frustrating part comes from. We have had excellent coaches, and terrific players with fun personalities. And, important to me, we have been a relatively very clean program. No NCAA sanctions here, unlike a couple of the other D1's here in the region. My wife and I have been season tickets for over 40 years. My daughter went to her first game at Horton at 6 months old in a car seat. Both our kids bleed ISU red, and both have two ISU degrees. Going to games and the MVC tournament has been a family tradition for 25 years. Perhaps at some point I will have time to give more a detailed history lesson, but that's what I have right now.

But our AD sucks and it's so lame that the attendance is down. Yep, it's only our admins. It's not happening anywhere else. Nope.

Horton Atmosphere was Fantastic!! I had student season tickets all four years Fall 79 to Spring 83. It was Great - the entire West side of the permanent or balcony seats were filled with students. I, along with many others, just had the sense, if we were loud enough - the Birds would not lose at Horton, whoever we played. There was a sense of involvement - I still have my WJBC button - "I'm the REDBIRDS' 6th MAN" - and that was a real feeling.

When was the last time, anyone - talked about the crowd being a 6th Man??? We need that back. But, first, students have to have a sense of "this is our school" and take pride in showing support. Everyone - students, athletics - all CHOSE to come to ISU - to Proud of that. Athletic ability is a God given talent - support it.

I am sure there are folks who are more eloquent and can explain it better - but, it needs to be said time and time again - This is what the Administration and Athletic Department should include in their address to students, whenever and wherever it takes place.

I could add to the history in great detail, but too much to say in this forum.

5 Birds is better than 1 in 1978 was still one of my favorite posters. Bird dunking and getting a T because he could not hear the whistle was an example of the 6th man in Horton. That game and the UNLV game were the two best I attended during college and the DePaul game a few years later was also awesome. Of course, we won, so that really, really helped.
