Big game Saturday. Might have to go down for it.

M Chastain had good stats except for scoring.. he took one shot 8 rebounds no fouls 1 assist 1 TO 1 block 1 steal

He also played really solid defense for the most part. Never gave up an easy layup, and contested quite a few shots. He is definitely our glue guy.

Couple of other thoughts:

--Defensively after the first 5 minutes or so, I think this was our best defensive game of the year so far. We didn't give up a ton of easy shots, never let them get comfortable again moving the ball, and contested shots without fouling shooters.

--Big 3 showed lots of leadership. That is key for us I think. If they continue to lead, play in control, we have a shot the rest of the year.

--Yarbs especially looked locked in on both ends of the floor. This is the Yarbs I hoped we'd see at the start of the year. He keeps this up, he could carry us into a race for first in the MVC and a shot at winning Arch Madness.

--Nice to see Key getting his stroke and confidence back despite his injured hand. This is huge for this team.

--Really surprised Phil didn't get to shoot a single FT for the game. If you'd have told me that he wouldn't and we'd still win big I'd have thought that was impossible. Impressive game for him all around, and I really like protecting him by shifting him to guard someone other than the team's big on defense. Really good move by Muller.
Can't discount any of this!

Outside of McGlynn we frustrated them offensively, and took them out of their game. Was worried when we had to burn 2 timeouts early in the game to get thing right, but we did.

Congrats Birds

very solid effort on the road. Nice W. Hopefully we keep it going and I think we can if we keep the commitment to guarding as hard as we can for 40 minutes.

Its tough to say something that hasn't been said already. But I'll give it a go because I know how much the board NEEDs my thoughts.

Given the team's history, most of the time I do not get comfortable with leads of any kind. I don't know what it was about last night, but I felt like we were up by 15 instead of four at the half. They got down eight early in the game and then a pair of timeouts seemed to refocus them. I loved the rotation pattern Muller was using. No one played over 31 minutes with a VERY short bench. You could tell by the end of the game that Muller was consciously considering the minutes because before almost every sub, he would look at the minutes sheet. Getting four guys scoring in double figures and a stout defensive effort would win most games. However, I have to give a shout out to Chas, Ike, Boogie, and Rey.

I'm so glad everyone is now seeing Chas for what he is. He took a lot of unfair criticism at the start of the season, but has turned into the player he should be and will continue to get better. His shooting % will always be above 50 because he does not have it in his DNA to take a bad shot. Ike was GREAT at the top of the zone. Keep in mind, he would usually be on either corner of the zone and not have to be that active. He was scrapping around and not allowing for easy shots. I could be wrong, but I only remember seeing one or two open 3's taken in the zone. Boogie was serviceable last night. His shot wasn't falling but he made the pass that lead to the pass for a bucket a few times. He didn't let his offense dictate his defense, which was active. His length as a perimeter defender is amazing. Rey did struggle some against McGlynn tonight, but I think that was more to do with the scouting report. It seemed Rey was fronting him, which allowed Nick to get easy buckets over his head. It's amazing how the defense on McGlynn was pretty solid and he still ended up with 15. Regardless, Rey did provide valuable minutes to give Phil a breather.

As all of you, I loved the leadership I saw from Milik. It's a shame it took this long, but it is here and hopefully here to stay! The guys played loose last night which was great to see. The really strange thing of the night was another game where officials weren't calling much and just letting them play. The foul discrepancy at one point in the second half was something like 9-1 and ended up 10-3 in the second half. No big deal given the outcome, but I fear that will come to bite us soon because I do think we have been playing more physical. I would be SHOCKED if Pollard didn't make his 2019 Redbird Arena debut on Saturday night. It's going to be a LOOOOONG day waiting for the game on Saturday.

National TV, 9PM, first place on the line. It would be great to have a big crowd, but a lot of tickets still for sale. Need the students to show up. Drake had a huge student turnout last night. They went around campus talking to the students and letting them know there was a game. I hope ISU does something to get students to the game.

I saw something on twitter about free pizza for students who bought tickets at watterson one night. Good to see them trying to get folks to the game, really need a big turnout and W on Saturday.

Yep. Red Alert was selling tickets to the game at Watterson and anyone that bought one would get a free large pizza from Papa Johns. So even if you didn't go to the game, pay 5$ for a large pizza is a good deal. My only issue with this is that most kids who live in Watterson are Red Alert members already... so no need to purchase a ticket.

I was completely impressed with Drake's fan base last night. For the first half, they were loud and really into the game. The student showing was great. They didn't have school yesterday and you could tell the booze was flowing from before the game. Drake also had buses go to their dorms and Greek row of houses to pick kids up. Both sides of their student section looked full.

If I remember correctly, our last 9 p.m. home game was against Wichita State, we had a good crowd and beat them pretty good.

Based off tickets already sold it will be our biggest crowd of the season.

I want the students to fill up their sections. That is what makes the home games fun. Everyone in the athletic department should be going to every dorm, frat/sorority, cafeteria, restaurant, etc....and talking to kids about the game.

I'm with everyone on here with all the positive things that were said. Aside from the first five minutes of the game, I felt that we really showed how good this team can still be with the right mindset. But I'm not ready to talk about winning the league just yet. This group has proven to be very inconsistent. Lets see if they can not let this win get inside their heads and make them feel like they are better than they actually are. They better bring it on Saturday night and play a full 40 minutes. When this team consistently competes for 40 minutes then I will start being less skeptical.

Like someone on the Drake forum said " How the **** did this ISU team get beat by 17 at Bradley?!" Its because we are so inconsistent and don't have athletes that are mature enough to handle adversity. I love ISU basketball and think this team can still get it done, so prove me wrong boys and go play like you actually want it.

And a loss Saturday puts us 2.5 (lose all tie breakers and would have to finish 1 game ahead of them) back of Loyola for the 1 seed with 8 games to go. Saturday is a huge game.

Big game Saturday. Might have to go down for it.

Well, this is quite the departure from your general tenor at the beginning of conference season on this board. Glad to see you are coming back around. Never let the lows get you too low, likewise with the highs.

There is no reason to watch this team. They are a waste of all of your time. Go hang out with friends you haven't seen for a while. Spend more time with your kids. Read a book. Pick a new hobby. This hobby is time you will never get back. I'm taking a break. I'll watch the scores but I'm not watchin...

I hope the 9pm start helps the student attendance. It gives them plenty of time before the game to prepare to be rowdy.

This was the best game I've seen ISU play in over a year. They went down 8 early and then flat out dominated from that point forward. We always seem to play better when we arent trying to sub in, sub out, sub in, sub, out. If we are able to keep Phil and Milik out of foul troubled, everyone eats.

That. Defense. Tho. There were VERY few open shots and the ones that were were low percentage and rushed. That zone was dominant. It looked like an amoeba. At one point, Drake, the best 3 point team in the conference, was shooting just 22% and giving up more or less uncontested shots from the paint on the other side.

Loved it.
