Was this sarcasm?

OK, so it was a bad idea...

How did everybody who went down there feel about the crowds? They had the upper bowl screened off, and most times the lower bowl seemed barely half full. Kinda of disappointing turnout I thought. I do like St. Louis over having it in Chicago.

Moline? WTF

I would prefer Indy over StL. Indy does a great job with those type of events. Rotate it around would be my preference.... StL Indy and Chi

As much as I'd love to have it in Indy once, I do not see that happening...it is farther east than the most eastern Valley school. But it's downtown is as fun as STL's, minus a big river and arch.

I see nothing wrong with STL and hope it stays for a long time.

Would we break 2,000 ISU fans if it was held in Chicago? Considering the crowds we have had at NW, UIC, and Loyola, would we double our contingent if it was up in Chicago? Considering our alums mainly live in Central IL and Chicagoland, we might also have a lot more students who aren’t away on Spring Break somewhere if it was in a Chicago.

StL offers some benefits in terms of hotels in the vicinity of the arena and Ballpark village. However, what would give ISU the best fan advantage?

I liked have the upper deck curtained off for two reasons. 1.) Ushers were much more relaxed about where your tickets were versus where you are sitting. 2.) It created a much more intimate setting for basketball which brought the energy up.

The Redbird crowds were good. Loyola seemed to be in a distant second with number of fans. SIU, DU, BU, and INST all brought about the same amount. ILST fans are not the issue with the tournament, its the other teams who haven't brought more fans.

Yeah, for how good Loyola was going into St. Louis, I figured they'd have twice as many fans. The probably will next year, with the bandwagon in full swing. The curtains were a good idea. I hated seeing a bunch of empty seats up there.

I just thought it would make it cheaper, and maybe draw more fans... they do have a 12,000 seat arena, but yeah, it's not exactly a tourist's paradise. I'm not sure how much the overall cost of everything affects the attendance.

First Thursday-Sunday in March in St Louis, I can:
Golf (without freezing), Watch MVC Tournament, Golf again & Watch more MVC Tournament, Visit Science Center & the St Louis Zoo (without freezing),Watch more MVC Tournament. And hanging out at BallPark Village is awesome before watching the Birds play. The wife and I also found time to see “Beautiful” at the Fabulous Fox Theatre while we were there. There are also plenty of good places to eat around St Louis. If you choose you can also go to Six Flags (without freezing)

I love getting back up to Chicago in the Summer. I Can go see my White Sox play, Walk the Magnificent Mile, hangout at Navy Pier, go to the Science Center & Shedd Aquarium, see a play/musical at one of the Theatres downtown. But I do not want to do any of this at the beginning of March.

What Chicago venue would you hold the Tournament? What would be the advantages over St Louis & the Enterprise Center?

Chicago? Wintrust I think Chicago would draw better.
I get your preference but I don't golf. IMO Chicago has a lot more to offer than St. Louis in any weather. Not a fan of Navy Pier. Tourist trap. Not big on shopping but I do like walking around Wicker Park and West Division. Not a big theatre guy either. Rather listen to music. City Winery or Fitzgerald's. Been to some good restaurants in St. Louis but come on. Gibson's!!!!!

Isn’t it awful hard to get tickets to a White Sox game?

I think the question comes down to folks answering: is the MVC tournament more about your basketball team and doing what we can to have the most success or is it more about a vacation?

Some folks like StL more. Some folks would like Chicago more. The weather is likely to be better in StL in terms of warmth, and the area of the tournament is pretty compact. Unless the weather is bad, you can walk from any team or area hotel. There is more to do in Chicago if you have family coming with who do not like basketball (shopping, plays/musicals, museums, restaurants), but at this time, probably less outside.

From a pure basketball standpoint, I would say it's important where your team feels most comfortable and where you can have the biggest voice of fans. I would venture that to be Chicago for us because it's closer to Bloomington-Normal, we have more alums there, and we have more students who may be home on Spring break. We are also more likely to have players from the Chicagoland area than StL, and that could also draw in a lot of their family and friends to come see them play.

If not for the Viverito family, I would see them trying different options. Once Patty retires or is forced out, I think things will be a little different in the MVC.

The naming rights to the building were sold. There will be an announcement Monday at 10 a.m. to introduce the building's new name.

I was excited that it might be moving out of St. Louis. It might be better in Moline...in a smaller arena, cheaper hotels, etc. Heck, I'd be okay with them just rotating it throughout the valley universities...we could get the home court advantage once in a while. That might put us over the top.
Wharton Field House in Moline would be perfect.

Wharton is a very cool place with tremendous history. Not for the MVC tourney, but a great gym.

Other than the Machine Shed, why would anyone want to go to the Quad Cities?

It is hard enough as it is for MVC teams to recruit against the P5s but having the MVC tourney in the Quad Cities would make it even harder. "Hey recruit come play at ISU and then have a chance to play in the Quad Cities vs playing in NYC at MSG....you will love it!!!"

One more reason to move it to Chicago.
