His situation is pretty straight forward. The portal is closed for undergrads to enter and have immediate eligibility for the '23-'24 season. Reeves was still considered active in the ISU database and could enroll to knock out the classes he needed this summer to graduate. UK cannot force him to stay there. He'll finish his undergrad courses over the next several weeks and be an immediate eligible grad xfer at a P5 in the fall for his final year of eligibility.

It's a downtime for sports news, so I understand the "Calipari holding him hostage" angle. I'm sure Cal would love to keep him. Pretty sure he's only got like 7 dudes on his team right now and 5 are incoming freshmen.

I know teams will be lining up for Tone, but damn it seems risky to wait this long. Some won’t have spots so it might not truly be the best situation possible. I wish him the best and will root for him no matter where he winds up.

There is surely some BTS stuff in the works. I'm guessing he's got a firm understanding of what his options will be.

i don't believe reeves is waiting at all...one can not"grad" transfer without graduating first. if he does not graduate he will likely be stuck at ky... at least for this coming year. as said by others, in this day and age, he surely already knows his options

Technically he could gain immediate eligibility this next season if he doesn't graduate he just has to get an waiver from the NCAA

My overall guess is that he goes back to Kentucky largely because he will have an open path to start for the Wildcats. My other guess with all the obfuscation and getting his grad degree somewhere else is because Cal likely told those that threw their name in the draft something similar to what he told the media, in that he didn't expect any of them back and he was going to recruit like they aren't coming back, so Tone has likely been keeping his options open just in case there wasn't a spot to return to.

Kentucky has massive holes in their roster. They have an amazing class coming in but spots to fill. Tone would be welcomed back so I doubt he’s doing this just to stay.

"I can’t believe that the Kentucky basketball program is in a place where it covets the return of a player of Reeves caliber."

He's not wrong

I like that half the folks weighing in on this act like Reeves is Matt Hein and not Kentucky's 2nd leading scorer last year.
He's a good mid major player. Thats what he is. He's just the only old one on Kentucky. He's the udonis haslem.

If he is just a mid-major player, that means everyone on Kentucky's roster from last year not named Tschiebwe was a mid-major player as well. I mean we can call him what we want, but he did just fine at a power 6 conference last year and will likely do just fine again this year.

Sure, Haslem is older than his teammates, but he’s also not producing and hasn’t been for awhile. Reeves is not Kentucky’s Udonis Haslem.

Antonio Reeves shot 39.8% from 3 point range and averaged 14.4ppg last year. If thats not the definition of a P6 player then idk what it is.

He also put up those numbers against SEC schools. He is a P6 player, there is no question about it. I was hoping he'd leave kentucky and play elsewhere but he has to do what he believes is best for him. Hoping he has a great year but the team blows. Their fanbase is insufferable.

At this point, I'm surprised you haven't changed your user name to goCats85.
