I keep thinking about this Arena Project. I am excited to upgrade the seats and see what the other things will look like.
I would love to see a rendering of the plan. I would think they would have some sort of picture or rendering from the architect or stadium seating company? Right?
Please share it so the fans can be excited! Anybody reading this who has connections please tell the front office to spill the beans.

Pep band and Brmm are both for one hour of credit. The funny thing about BRMM is that members of the BRMM spend about 15-18 hours per week with the band during game weeks. There was a lot of talk about making it a 2 credit hour class but it never happened.

I never knew that. That's ridiculous. I was in band in high school. For band, it was a every semester full class. Summer and the first half of fall semester is dedicated to marching band compeitions, and pep band. After that it went to concert band. I don't see why they can't do something similar for college.

Not relevant to college but during your jr and sr year in our HS band, you got exempt from P.E. for doing a "varsity sport." Unless you did it, it's tough to understand what those band kids go through physically, especially bands that compete.

Some of our promotions are embarrassing...so deflating to the energy. Sure I want capacity but travel the country and check out the fan energy in other places. I give our promotions game a C at best!! I'd probably honestly give them a C- or D+. NO reason for that!! (I LOVE Red Alert but we still need more whole arena creativity)

Sweet Caroline is a great convertible drive through town song but in a 60 second timeout it takes ya 60 seconds just to wind up to sweeeeet caroline. Even with a tv t/o that long wind up just sucks the energy like a Quinn flaming tuba in reverse! Its not for Redbird Arena, man!! Caroline go away!! We'll catch you AFTER the game!

Which promos are embarrassing, Humdinger? What have you seen out there that we are not doing and should be doing?

Pretty sure I saw the tissue thing on an NBA broadcast over the weekend. No saying I care for it much, but lots of programs do it. We did not invent it.

BB, we should sit together at a game sometime and we'll explore ideas. Think you and I are pretty much going to disagree on this topic, as we have since I made my first post a couple yrs ago remarking about the Shcoker crowd.

Yes, I have ideas...as you frequently aak those of us who are disappointed in the game experience. It's a fair question! Got plenty of 'em!

It would be great to sit down and talk to you anytime about anything, Humdinger.

But really, it's a very simple question. I go to lots of sporting events. At different levels and venues. I would truly like to know what all of these terrific, crowd building ideas our admins are not coming up with. I would be happy to agree with good ideas that help our program.

I am pretty familiar with the game environment at GCU. Their climate and venue helps a ton with their well known pregame student festivities. And their pretty unique student base plays well with their in game presentation. Really, if it was easily replicated, all programs would do it. We would do it.

What has gcu done to warrant a crazy student fanbase? Their students are up there with duke and every other crazy fan base if not better (they are really great). No reason 2000-2500 students can't show up. Both ends should be packed with students

At the volleyball game they have videos of different players squaring off in a head to head rock paper scissors match. It's fun to watch! I think basketball should do something like that. Have a gigantic bracket with all the players and coaches, then have us guess who will win. Matches go on throughout the year, and the overall bracket winner wins a cool prize, like 50 percent off a hotdog (after you buy three of them) Plus, they're basketball players so you can allow some smack talk beforehand. Now, as far as the bracket goes, I'm picking Hein. Can anybody really beat him head to head?

But I get your idea. Steal some ideas from other schools and bring it home. Anything to make it more fun. Naked pie eating contests? Whatever you need to do.

OK, lets talk about Grand Canyon University. I can tell you, for a fact, that our admins are aware of what they do. ALL D1's are. They are talked about a lot in among folks who are responsible for marketing and audience in the NCAA. First, they have a big outdoor event before most games. Lots of food and drink (non alcoholic), games, and fun. They have a beautiful outdoor area to do this, and more importantly, the climate that works for the pregame events they put together. A little tougher if you are dealing with 5 degree temps. I have been to games at University of Arizona. They have an outdoor plaza and it is great for them to build crowds like GCU does with pregame events outdoors.

Second, you have to look at the student demo at GCU. This very much a Christian student fanbase. Frankly, it's just not important that they are at a another one of the hundreds of parties, serving alcohol that are going on at a place like ISU, or virtually every other university in the United States at the time a college basketball game is going on. GCU builds their game experience around this rather unique fanbase. They play to this very well.

C'mon folks, don't you think if what GCU does could translate anywhere else, everyone would be doing what they do by now? Fact is, most every university, outside of periennial top 20 teams is struggling with attendance, specially student fans. There are no magic bullets. I really think our staff does a decent job of keeping up on what works, and we are always trying new things. But it's certainly a struggle.

So I will ask again, the sports marketing gurus here... what, specifically are we missing? What ideas do you propose? I shall set back and wait for what is always replied. Our admins suck, and don't know how to do anything -- yada, yada, yada. I will give you an idea, though. It is WIN. We need to go the the big dance every once in awhile. So many near misses don't do much anything for growing a rabid fanbase. That's why the top 20 programs pack them in. Heck, all they have to do is open the doors. Of course, that is what every program wants. I will probably get skewered for this, but I think we do better than most in our situation.

I like the naked pie-eating contests. (oh boy we could really go off the rails here)

But for all that is good and holy, please don't enter the contest, Hulka. People seeing you naked would turn Redbird into Stand By Me.

I'm not sure if anyone heard the interview with Larry at halftime of the football game, but don't think this is going to be a major change. Just replacing the seats and the base under them.

The "Loge Seats" are just going to be seating areas around the concourse in the empty spaces not used to comply with the ADA.
