It’s not like we’re Kentucky and simply reload every year. At this level you absolutely cannot afford starters leaving. We need cohesivensss, and I can’t imagine how disruptive that can be.

It just happened and we got right back to the title game.

Can’t believe I’m doing this, but . . . :text-+1:

What’s the source on Chastain not cutting it talent wise? Or is it just rumor and Redbird Room chatter? I’m waiting to see for myself.

Christ, even I wait to see a player before I bury him.

i heard it directly from those involved with loyola basketball. I want to know how people are justifying him being impactful when they make that statement.

Before or after he chose to leave?

Nice cop out.

What makes you think he will be our savior? Or heck... what evidence do you have he would have played on this Loyola team?

Again, nice cop out. No answer to your claims.

Never said he’d be our savior, but I can reasonably guess he’ll be better than Gassman and Hein. He has good size, good hops, good shot, a scorer’s mentality, and a better b-ball IQ than what we have now. He will improve our bench.

As for Loyola, he’d already proven he could play. He was getting significant PT as a frosh before getting hurt. He might not have started, but would have played.

cant argue that he may improve ISU's bench as ISU's bench this year was so weak...bench was borderline non-existent at the 4 and 5 spot as well as pg.

It's odd, though, that they felt good enough about him to recruit him and give him a scholarship. Truth is, NONE OF US KNOW. We will, though.

Losing like that on national tv is embarrassing

Trust me. Not that many people were watching.

I agree. I’m pretty sure most of the Valley fans didn’t bother watching. How many were watching yesterday when Murray State won the OVC? Or Radford earlier today? He’ll even the P5+ don’t pull good TV audiences. It’s the first weekend of the Dance that generates viewers. Nobody cares all that much otherwise.

well we recruited hein and david too . recruiting is not perfect . hopefully we got it right and loyola did not. Although we are not using a scholarship on Chastain...at least not yet and may never?

I'd be really surprised if he wasn't a scholarship player.

Wouldn't bother me though. Would love to have the scholly available.

I’m not saying he’s Hein. he’s okay. But if he plays significant minutes we aren’t making the NCAA. That’s all I’m saying.
So no credible source is really all you’re saying.

I think just the optics of the situation generate the perception that this is a step down for Chastain. That’s all it takes for the rumor mill that is college basketball to create a false narrative in every bar in the Missouri Valley. We’ll find out the truth, just like we always do. I’ll wait to see Matt “The Truth” Chastain for myself.

I wish I could say I am upset about today’s game but I have become numb to it. It is more than losing in all of these MVC championship games, although this does have a lot to my current feelings. Being a bit older than most here I started following ISU b-ball in the Smithson era. He was bringing in what today would be considered 3 & 4 star players. There was the talk and feeling then that ISU was going to be special on the national stage and back then they were.

Since then, however, it’s not been so special. Yes there have been some really good teams over the intervening years but what has it come to? Play one and sometimes two games in whatever post season tournament but lose and never get to a third game. No post season runs ever.

I like watching ISU basketball and hope for wins but my expectations have lowered over the years. I can deal with it I guess. All in all, I have become comfortably numb.

Congrats to Coach Moser and the Ramblers. They have an excellent team. Seems Moser's coaching has caught up to his character and the type of guy he's always been.

I hope they go on a deep run.

Another humiliating Sunday for Illinois State. When will it end? :(

So many things have changed in college basketball since the Smithson era, and they have all tilted the board in favor of the P5s. I’m kind of where you are. I keep taking each successive title loss better, on some level realizing big emotional investment is pointless after 20 years of close but no cigar. I’ll be jacked if we ever break thru some year, but the best defensive mechanism seems to be expecting the worst.

This was a tweener for me. Didn’t get destroyed by 30, didn’t lose in OT, didn’t build the huge lead and blow it. Those were all more painful for me to watch. We played like crap, but just this doesn’t rank in my top most crushing MVC title games. It stinks that I have so many to choose from.

My thoughts exactly. This game was over after the 7-0 run they had to start the half (after Tinsley made the 3).
