With all the player and fan optimism, I bought in & planned to play thru to Sunday. My weekend is ruined. Thanks Muller.

Not to worry, curmudgeon. Go stand outside of Busch and wait patiently for a scalper. You're sure to score a great ticket for tomorrow's Cardinal game.

Humdimger a cubs fan? Always knew you took losing too well.

Now what do we do with Bruninga, Rey, and Chastain

Maybe consider playing them instead

I love all three but they also give us nothing at all. Rey’s defense is an absolute joke. He has terrible feet and not enough length to defend. Chastain has been hampered with several knee surgeries and is really only a hustle type player who is not particularly good at any one thing. Bruninga, obviously hampered by injuries, gives us zero defense and 3pt shooting with no post presence.

What both Rey and Ndiaye do are the things that most #5’s do, the occupy the middle, discourage offense in the paint, they play against the #5, which allows Fisher more room to operate offensively. They set screens and hopefully create opportunities for the scorers. Chastain and Bruninga are also not great scorers- both play a stretch 4 game that can shoot from the outside when left open and work hard on defensive end, making it hard to get an open look on their side, closing with length and getting to the boards. These are all roles that are necessary to win.

All the players other than Chastain are fresh/ sophomores. Are they works in progress-of course. Does Rey need to improve his defense- absolutely. But the Birds played even with Drake the first half with all of these “role” players (who need to play to get better) being rotated in the lineup.

The second half, the staff went back to the 4 guard lineup and didn’t play Chastain, who would have shot a better %, turned the ball over less and played much better defense and would have rebounded. The Redbirds don’t need everybody to be scorers- it feels like a DIII game( where teams are many times lucky to have one big kid per team.)

Taylor looked a little lost tonight, but my recollection was he was asked to play against the #5-simply not likely to be successful against a big like #21. While not hugely successful, I thought Rey and to a larger extent Abdou had solid minutes that were rewarded by being asked to play. Did they give up baskets -yep. Were the Birds still better with one of them and either Fisher, Chastain or Bruninga on the floor with them-I think so.

Exactly. All those guys would be fine in a different system. Any system other than the roll the ball out there Muller shuffle. No ball movement, no back cuts, no anything but a bunch of one one one stuff. Friggin joke. False hope first 10 games or so and then reverted to same old stuff that has become ISU basketball.

Bad season

i feel sorry for the players. They must feel miserable. I know they also feel incredible relief that it's finally over. The last 5 months had to be unbearable and not fun at all. Seasons like this make some players hate the game and not even want to play anymore.

Makes it feel like a job and not a fun job. Very sad what this program has become.

The '20-'21 season promises more of the same with a great amount of roster turnover and new players that have never played Division 1 basketball before. This is a terrible recipe for success and a great recipe to continue to be awful and irrelevant.

You will always have 2016!!! 22 years without an NCAA Tournament is nothing for a fan that is ok being good once every 120 or so years.

2016 had a chance to be a Super Bowl season with the U of I at Redbird Arena! Somehow Muller choked there too!

The best part about this season is that it's now over.

It started out well. Those first two wins were exciting, we showed some grit and effort and found ways to close them out. It was impressive for such a new group. Then it all took a major shit.

We have to just hope next season is somehow better, and that's only if nobody transfers out, we find some help in the post and we don't turn the ball over 6324 times per game. Wish in one hand...

And can we get Dinma to give Rey a call?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are we now the only D1 bball team in the state done for the season?

We joined Western, Eastern and SIU-E. All eliminated as well. Chicago State might forfeit the rest of their season, but still alive for now. It's an elite group of basketball programs and athletic departments we joined.

No, SIU-E didn't make the OVC tourney and their season is over. Eastern also lost in the OVC tourney yesterday and barring the CBI or CIT they are also likely done for the season. Western Illinois also didn't qualify for the Summit league tourney and their season is done.

They also canceled the game against Utah Valley, and since the WAC only takes the top 8 teams Chicago State is likely done.

Worst ISU team in 15 years.
? How about "Worst ISU team ever".

5 win Bender team had an RPI of 259. As of right now this team is 243 in RPI. Going to finish slightly better. Huge accomplishment.

We are no better than those teams. Let that sink in. That should literally be impossible but Dan has found a way.

Sad, but true. Reminds me of the one year I drove over to Macomb and Bryson saved us in Overtime. I think it was more of a bad game than being on the same level. At least that team won 20 games and made the NIT. This team and program is one of the worst teams in Division 1 basketball.

Thinking about next year. Our 3-4-5's.

MVC Only Stats
Fisher - 10.6 ppg
Idowu - 2.6 ppg
Brunninga - 2.1 ppg
Chastain - 1.6 ppg
Ndiaye - .9 ppg

Unknown
Sissoko
Alston Andrews

Unless Sissoko or Andrews all-conference or we bring in a JUCO stud. I don't see how we will be much different next year, with only 1 productive player for 3 positions? We need 2 to 3 impact players at those positions to even have a chance.

Emon Washington will likely play the 3-4 as well that you could put into the unknown category, and based on what I've seen/read so far on him he could make an impact for us.

I think Ndiaye has potential on both ends. I'd like to see him had some strength in the weight room and get more involved in the offense, if he keeps developing. But, for the most part I agree having another productive big would be a huge boon. I'm hoping Alston/Sissoko can contribute right away.
