The AD is involved with scheduling but ultimately a conference schedule is done by the conference. The AD would be involved with Redbird availability but for a school like ISU with their own arena that would be minimal. The conference assigns officials. I suppose Sat/Sun games could in part be a result of officials' availability. Good officials don't grow on trees. TV also would be a part of the equation. For me personally, Saturdays are my only shot at going to Redbird. Oh well.
There is always a pitstop on the way.

So the Sunday games we have at home:

- 12/4: 3 MVC games on Saturday, 2 on Sunday
- 1/29: 3 MVC games Saturday, 3 on Sunday
- 2/26: All 6 MVC games are on Sunday

So we get hosed on 12/4, kind of hosed on 1/29 and we can't complain about 2/26 because all the teams play the same day.

I'd like to know why we have so many weekend road games in a row other than "random".

Everyone has 5 home weekend games. Each week, each team plays one away game and one home game. Everyone also plays one weekday game and one weekend game.

Playing the first and last home games on the weekend causes 3 weekend games over the remaining 8 weeks. It's probably just as simply as that.

Just win. Bradley on Wednesday? Road games on Sundays? Home games on Sundays? If this program isn't winning 20, I'll say 25+ games, the average fan it takes to fill Redbird will not come out. Period. Win! Wherever, whenever. At least we have a foundation for excuses properly poured!

Also, Mike Kern from the Valley office has confirmed (according to March to the Arch podcast) that they try and set up the last game of the season for match ups for TV and drama. Evansville at ISU. Probably all you need to know of what the Valley office thinks of us this year.

Drake at Bradley
Belmont at UNI

That's who the Valley office think are going to be in that top quarter this year, I feel. Especially that Drake/BU game.

I don't see anyone making excuses. I see fans who are complaining about how the schedule isn't ideal for their viewing needs or optimal attendance. Myself included. In no way, shape or form will any of these complaints change the outcomes of these games, no matter where or when they are played.

Unless they were all played on Tuesday!

It's just like the FBS programs have had to learn to live with 11am start times, to accommodate TV, and then there was the Friday night football effort in the Big 10+, undercutting HS football. The MAC playing on Tuesday and Wednesday. All about the Benjamins.

Sunday hoops is unfortunately here to stay (hell, the Big 10 usually has a Sunday evening game or two, I mean every week).

As always, good attendance comes down to winning and hype. If you have at least one (but ideally both), then you will mitigate some of the game date/time issues. Case in point, I'll reference '08-'09. We had 4 Xmas break games that year and the attendance was as follows:

5,029 (bleh, Sunday at 2pm vs. Morehead St)
6,121 vs. UIC
7,336 (vs. Evansville on New Years Eve)
10,200 (and an ass whipping of Creighton)

Later that season vs. MoSt: 9,055 on NFL Championship Sunday.

People will come when they have a reason to :)

He had as many tweets about UIC as he did ISU.

Time for someone to take over the beat who really wants it.

I’m sure there’s a local mini golf tourney Jim could cover instead during the winter months.
I give him a break on assignments. The Pantagraph has two sports reporters. Jim and Randy. They have to cover every thing, or as much as they can. So him covering golf or whatever, that's fine. He has to do that.

But he was in STL for the media day. And we get tweets and articles about almost every thing BUT ISU? That's when I have problems with it.

I will back Benson on this one. He covered ISU and most of the other schools. I enjoyed the article.

I spent 17 years as the sports editor of a weekly paper in Chicagoland. Sometimes, you have to realize what your reader base wants. ISU coverage is far more important to the community than local match play golf. It just is.

New staff, a ton of new players and we get next to nothing.

I’ll blame his editors.
