Hearing the boys will be headed to Muller's recruiting ground for a November, Mid-Major based MTE.

Heard the same. Fort Myers should be nice that time of the year.
Is it the FT Myers Tip Off? If that's the case we are most likely in the lower division since SMU, Wisconsin, Virginia, and West Virgina have been announced. That would mean an away game against one of those teams and 2 games against mid majors in Florida. South Dakota, NIU, LIU, and Sam Houston played in the lid major bracket last year. I like playing in Florida but it always nice trying to get power school on a nuetral site

Quite a few of these tournaments are going to this format of having four high major teams and four mid-major teams playing in separate divisions.

I live near Fy Myers. There are 2 tourneys. One is the one that has been described with high level P5 teams that is played at Florida SW junior college and takes place over thanksgiving. I think Bradley and Drake and/or UNI have played there in the past. There are 2 4 team divisions with the better teams playing each other in FLA.

The second is an all MM tourney at the Hertz arena (hockey rink) and features 8 MMS. Bracketed knockout format over 3 days. FGCU won it last year by beating
N Kentucky, Drexel, and UMKC. This one also takes place over thanksgiving

Yeah, the Birds have been involved in these in the past...they were previously in the "better division" and hosted a "mainland" or on-campus game with the "lower division."

'21-'22: Hosted Bucknell then played SLU and Buffalo in the Cancun Challenge
'15-'16: Hosted South Dakota State and Houston Baptist the played No. 2 Maryand and TCU in Cancun
'12-'13: Hosted Delaware St and FDU then played UAB & NW in South Padre
'11-'12: Hosted SIUE and Lipscomb before beating Rutgers and Illannoy ;) in Cancun
'07-'08: Hosted SEMO and UNC W before playing Indiana and Kent State in Chicago

Between the Gulf Coast Showcase (MM bracketed 8-team tournament with confirmed teams: Valpo, Buffalo, GW, Wright State and 4 TBD) and the Ft. Meyers Tip-Off (opponents in "lower" division TBD but likely a game at UVA, Wisc, SMU, or WVU), I think I'd prefer the latter, as long as it's not SMU.:ROFLMAO:.

A homecoming game for our Davis, Banks and JK would be sweet. I wouldn't say no to a homecoming for Malachi either.

Last year's "Palms Division featured LIU, South Dakota, Northern Illinois, and Sam Houston. So, potentially, a nice vacation, a couple winnable games bundled with a road game at hopefully either Wisconsin, UVA or WVU (in that order). If it's a game at SMU, I might lean towards the MM bracketed tournament for the experience of playing 3 games in 3 days.

Wasn’t this tourney once considered a big affiliate of Gulf Gas? A big advertiser or sponsor. I always enjoyed getting gas at Gulf too. I think it’s pretty cool.

The Gulf Gas Tourney? Something like that. Have a good time if you attend.

That dad gum Indiana game was frustrating. I thought we could have won that game.

If Valpo is already in tourney, doubt we would be too.
Valpo and ILST both played in the 2019 Paradise Jam. There's been a couple other times in the past few years where teams from the same league played in the same MTE.

It's doable, just not ideal.

I also think this the first time, at least since the likes of those Basketball Travelers Classic/Global Sports Roundball Classic/World Vision Invitational cupcake specials in Normal, where we participate in a MTE without at least one Power 5 involved.

Who can forget California-Santa Barbara, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Monroe, Nicholls State, Norfolk State, St. Bonaventure, South Dakota, Southeast Missouri State, and Winston-Salem State descending on Redbird Arena. I believe the game versus the Bonnies was the only close one of that set.

I agree, definitely not preferred, but possible.

How dare you forget the Golden Gate Classic or whatever the hell it was called featuring the Redbirds, San Francisco, Vermont, and Sonoma State back in 2013?

Also, the better remembered '16 Diamond Head Classic didn't feature a true P5 (Birds, Tulsa, SFA, San Diego State, Southern Miss, San Fran, Utah (maaaaaybe), and Hawaii.

Either way...it seems like we're gonna be paying for FloHoops come November.

The Birds and UNI played each other in the Big Island Invitational Mullers freshman year
