I guess I didn't know ISU has to pay every non home/home team to come to Redbird. I still hate it.
Redbirdwarrior said:I'm with our leader on this one. Who at Quincy has pictures of our ADs that nobody wants to see? You want a rollover game with a local team? Call Chicago St, Western, SIUE or another state's bottom D1 teams. Playing DII does nothing.
It. Does. Nothing.
"Well, with 1 starter returning, it could help"
Yes, if that game were being held to kick off the non-con season. But we will have already played a final 4 team, a 26 win conference champion and at least 2 other high level teams. Then we kick off our home slate- a game that will set the minds of all of the freshmen (the largest freshmen class in ISU history) as to what an ISU basketball game is and we welcome in... Quincy.
Bad. Just bad long term planning here, guys. Best case scenario is the Birds win by 25 and put on a dunk clinic so people stay interested. Anything less than a 10 point win will be met with a "well, that is what that is, eh? Okay. Lets go back to Watterson for the other games this season".
I agree.Redbirdfan21 said:I guess I am in the minority, but I do not mind the Quincy game. Since it does not affect SOS and RPI, I would rather them play that game then some 300+ RPI school like Chicago State

It is what it is. Does it suck to not have a name opponent? Sure. But I'll take this over getting the RPI hit over the Texas Southerns of the world.

isuquinndog said:There is ZERO reason Illinois State should be playing Quincy in a regular season basketball game. Exhibition? Fine, go for it. Short trip for Quincy, great. Feed em DP Dough, whatever.
But for it to be one of our actual home games is a joke and ridiculous. We've done it for a few seasons now and it was dumb then and it gets dumber every year we repeat it. What is the possible upside to this for ISU?
- I'm sure we pay Quincy to come
- The attendance is lower which means less $$$ for ISU
- It doesn't count in the NCAA' s eyes
- What good does it do the team to play them five games into the season? Because we are coming back from PR? Boo hoo. Great, we get to hopefully blow someone out. Look at us, beating up on D2 schools
- And if, God forbid, a major piece of the team gets hurt for the season during this game it will be a complete waste
ISU is better than this. Play Texas Southern for all I care. At least they are a D1 team.

I'd like to see our entire team return next year a-la Wichita to destroy the rest of the Valley and hammer the BYUs and Ole Misses of the world on our home court.
Could be a very very special year indeed. Maybe 30 wins. At-large profile. dancing with a chance to advance and maybe run into Greggy Schmalzzzh.

Learned something new today. Had no idea that it doesn't affect our resume.
