I don't think a single fan in the arena had any idea that was what was alleged. It seems pretty clear that the NSU coach was trying to communicate that a fan called his player the N word based on the replay. I do not believe there is any possible way Pedon could've understood what he was saying though. If something was said, I think it would've helped calm the crowd if an announcement was made over the loudspeaker warning fans.
Yeah, I was sitting on that side and no one mentioned during or after the game that there had been an allegation of a racial slur - I had no idea until I read it online. There would've been very, very few people who knew what was alleged.

Without that context, people thought the NSU coach was acting out of line, which caused mass confusion. I even yelled "you have no class" at one point...but I just thought whatever he was upset about was something game-related.

Guess we'll see if the allegation ends up being corroborated. It was so loud in there, we'll probably never know.

They moved to the south bleachers initially, then an admin came over a minute or 2 later and walked them out of the building.

If the referees actually heard the slur, then there should be a statement from the officials saying so. Too bad it wasn't an MVC game, then we'd know.
Whoops sorry 222 just saw your post.

The best thing for our Team, our fans, ISU and our wonderful community is to put this sorry episode behind us. I’m confident Coach and his staff will learn valuable lessons from this. We lost a tough game we should have won. Let’s leave it at that and move forward.

It sure would be nice to hear a statement. It would be helpful to know if the referee actually heard what was allegedly said or if it was a claim made by Thomas. I don't have much faith the truth will ever be known. There are a lot of angry people online and any communication from the NCAA, ISU, or NSU will be made with that in mind.

The refs were bad last night and I usually never say that about a crew. The same ref threatened to kick Mal out the game last night while he was on the bench at one point. That crew lost control of the game early on last night.
From my perspective. Us being humans sometimes don’t even hear what’s being said in the heat of the moment and respond anyway. On the other hand, us being humans blow things out of proportion unintentionally too. If racial slurs were said by fans they should be banned from games point blank period. I stand firmly on this, as I stand on “The Word”. If players hear certain things then I believe at least one ref hear them too. The refs played a part in this and this morning they’re all good. I believe Pedon didn’t know what started this, his position as a coach and leader of young men is to protect them first. He believed he was doing just that concerning the game. He shall remain.

Took my 14 yo son to the game last night, and despite the loss and not so stellar play by the birds, we both walked out saying that was one of the most enjoyable games we had ever attended. The atmosphere was electric. Even though it wasn’t officially a sellout, it felt like a full house and completely different than the way CEFCU does with 3700 there, Both of us left wishing more games could be played there, but understand that’s likely not going to happen.

As for the ‘incident’, very unfortunate no matter what actually happened. We sat in the lower section 4 rows directly behind the guys who were removed, but of course could hear nothing that they said. I’ve never seen a game involving a player like #6, as he was constantly looking to taunt and interact with the lower bowl fans on our side. Was quite entertaining. After the interaction with the fans in question, I saw the ref pull him aside and lecture him, and I said to my son that they were finally going to tell him to knock it off. Didnt appear the the ref was concerned with the fans at that time. Then chaos ensued and we had no idea why until reading about it this morning.

if it’s determined that such slurs did occur, then absolutely no excuse for this disgusting behavior, and hope I never see those guys at games again. But I also find it disgusting that this made national news before we truly know what happened. And we likely never will.

I was thinking the same thing regarding the refs. The NSU HC tweeted that the refs told him one of the refs heard the slur. Did ISU actually interview the crew after the game to get their input? Why didn’t ISU get out in front of this before they turned out the lights at Horton? By not responding, they allowed everyone to weigh in and direct the narrative.

Did I miss something? Has ISU made any official statements?

Pedon is getting trashed on the interweb?
Bunch of people who didn’t watch the game and are taking tweets out of context, thinking Pedon started the fight with the coach and was defending fans, when obviously that’s not true in the heat of the moment he would have no clue what fans were saying. Tough situation people are using to try to write stories and get clicks

I blame our admin for this crap. By not saying anything, the kangaroo court of public opinion fills the void and the school and coach gets dragged by a bunch of idiots with no knowledge of what happened or didn’t happen.

Well played, ISU, well played.

Sarcasm.

Amen. Pedon and the University need to come out with a statement. Not that hard, just say what happened and that Pedon didn’t understand what was happening in the heat of the moment and was mad the refs weren’t giving a technical or was defending his players he thought the coach was going after. Now that they know what happened (allegedly I suppose since multiple people close by said no slur was said) they obviously don’t condone any of it.

We are the first D1 university to hire a black head coach and now we have this stench on us.

Maybe they are conducting interviews and are wanting to wait until they have completed them before they make a public announcement.

That would be the right way to go about it, if that’s what they’re doing they should get out a statement saying such, and a full statement will come out once completed

They should have interviewed the refs last night and came out with a statement before we went to bed. By not responding, we left the door open for all the conjecture and innuendo we are currently dealing with. We needed to get out in front of this and we didn’t. Similar to our shooting from the arc last night, we failed miserably.

Ok, that doesn’t bother me. That reminds me of Xavier McDaniel. Just because the kids on the floor are into to the game doesn’t mean someone has to be a jagwod and embarrass our fan base. I wish some of our guys had some swag/confidence.
It's tough to pump a fist or yell a Let's Go when shooting 19% from 3! 19%!
