The key word here is IF.
Of course it is. I'm curious, do you think their coach would have lied and said that the refs told him this knowing the refs would later read or hear his comments? If the refs didn't tell their coach, I'm sure they would deny saying this. Whether our fans said it or not, it seems like the ref told their coach that our fans did.

I hope someday they remove teams like Norfolk State and Chicago State from the schedule.
Agreed. I was seated not far behind the NS bench. Their disrespect was on display from the start; even to our Coaches son. NS was looking for a scuffle from the start. That’s their game. That’s what they do. It was a disappointing and frustrating night all around.

I'll bite. How were they disrespectful to our coach's son? How do they know who our coach's son is?

I am not kidding. I haven't been down to a game in a while so I'm asking the question.
Nevermind to the attitude then. Maddox is typically walking around with coaches prior to jump and things getting serious. I wasn’t close enough to hear or notice anything towards him. NSU did have an attitude from the jump. They played the villains spoiling the day very well.

Reasonable take. If they really want to change the narrative and do good then a return game should happen.

And the snowball continues to gather momentum as it rolls down the snowy mountain side.

To be abundantly clear here...I wasn't there. I did not hear what was said or what wasn't said so I won't comment on the situation or get on my My Space account and comment on it. My guess is that Coach Rob Johnson wasn't within earshot either, but here we are. Social media running amok.

I think P5s are too taking few developing frosh and hitting the portal for proven talent. If some high schoolers are future MVC players they may not start there, but if coaches and staff are doing their job, they will end up in the MVC.

ISU can't have a roster with lots of developing players esp in today's portal environment where the roster turn can be so dramatic meaning many will develop and move on. We have 3 frosh on scholarship this year...1 contributor and 2 non-contributors. Of these 3 how many are likely to be here in their senior season? 1 would be my bet.

ISU, as a mid-major residing in a conference that is now basically a 1 ncaa tourney conference, can't take more than 3 frosh each year and still try to compete. I am not certain if taking 3 is even wise? One of biggest desires for college hoopsters is to play in the ncaa tourney...if developing players have not played there in their first couple of seasons it is likely they are moving on if they believe there is no immediate chance to do so.

Pedon and staff, like all other coaching staffs, need to become good at portal evaluation and the ability to immediately develop a "team" each year. Biggest challenge for Pedon or any men's basketball coach at ISU is ISU's reputation of being a loser or non-winner (how ever you want to frame it). Pedon has to prove that ISU is otherwise and the clock starts to turn against him after 3 seasons, IMO.
I’ve seen comments about how NSU game didn’t matter because we’re not hunting an at-large, which, after blowing some early games is true.

But once the Valley added Murray State and Belmont, don’t we have to go into every season with an at-large mentality, realistic or not? A 12-team Arch Madness is a tough gauntlet to hope to navigate as your only potential path the a tourney bid…

So, yes, grab as many transfers as you think can make us competitive every year - we can’t afford to punt years for the sake of development anymore. But the only way to be at all consistent is to have guys like Kinziger/Pence/Walker develop quickly, continually improve, and stick around.

Easier said than done, but I like Pedon’s approach. Now he just has to execute.

Completely agree about the band, especially at Horton. The acoustics at Horton magnify any sound and the band used to be incredible back in the 80s when we played there. I've been away from B/N for a long time now and didn't know we got rid of the flaming tubas. Why couldn't we bring them back?

As nice of a facility as it is, the thing that sucks about Redbird Arena is the acoustics suck. I don't know if they still have those sound deafening pads hanging from the roof like they did when they first opened the arena in the 90s but they literally hung pads to silence the echos of sound so Redbird Arena could host concerts. Great for concerts, terrible for creating a loud, hostile environment for a basketball game.

Even from watching on ESPN+, you could tell how loud it was at Horton with only a few thousand fans in attendance. I miss those days.
How many concerts are even held at Redbird anymore?

The coach's son was very visible before the game. He was wearing a ISU lettermen's jacket. My wife, from way across the court, one of her first comments was, that must be the coach's son to be able to be on the court like that. I have watched the replay on ESPN. There was taunting from the NS bench towards the crowd that you don't see on TV. And #6, after almost every play would stare, yap, motion, whatever at the fans in the front row. This was from the tip. There was back and forth way before the culminating incident. I've been told they were giving him a hard time for "flopping" and nothing inappropriate was said.

we are basically aligned...isu should absolutely be trying to get an at large every year...be the best they can be always be. my point is that taking a lot of developing frosh is a bit like punting the current season away and risky for the future as they may not be here in 2-3 years.

further i too like pedon's approach.

Came back to bite a second. This vitriol won’t do our school’s image any favors, not that most people don’t go to another schools superfan forum for facts.
We all know what was meant when you two said this and it’s disgusting.

If something was said throw the fans out for life. If nothing was said nothing was said and the NSU coach needs to comment on that. Regardless it warrants a discussion on why it’s never right to say that, because it never hurts to reinforce that.

The NSU players, especially Thomas, got in our fans heads. And he showed up. He was not only vocal to us to himself, his team, his coach’s. More power to him.

Interesting that no one sitting near ground zero seems to corroborate the accusation of racial slurs. Is there evidence of the ref saying he heard it? If so, he must have amazing hearing compared to fans sitting adjacent to the supposed offending fan(s).
