I have some Illini friends that were excited they won last week because they could still make a bowl. I'm like why? It's all about the $$$$$. That $50+ million they get for existing in the Big WeCantCount isn't enough.

I don't think your Illini friends care about the money or payout from a potential bowl game. The majority of bowl games lose money for the teams involved. Not knowing your Illini Friends, I think they might be excited because a bowl game somehow validates a "Good Season" to them. Even at 6-6 they probably see that as on the right track. Right or wrong.

I think this is exactly why they like the bowl game because a trip at 6-6 to the Poulan Weed-Eater Independence Bowl validates a good season because the season is continuing. Which is why I like FCS football bc we may be 7-4, miss out on the playoffs and people are upset.

I mean, we are holding out hope for a miraculous entry into the FCS playoffs, so I'm not going to begrudge another fanbase for being excited about becoming bowl eligible.

As a fan, I want to watch as many games as possible of the teams I love.

you don't want to know 'em. They are Illini fans. :p

I agree, they don't care about the money. It was a long winded way to say I agree with the previous post about .500 records making bowl games is dumb.

6-6 used to be great for the illini. Now, it's a decent season. They're going in the right direction.

Haha! I hope it does. Like Illinois fans want to see an extra game or NIU fans hope they snatch up one of the mediocre MAC bowl bids with one more win, I just want to see my damn team play.
I agree I do want to see ISU play every weekend if I can I just think if we finish 7-4 w/o a playoff bid then the season isn't doom and gloom like other people think. If Illinois and NIU fans are happy with a .500 season and a bowl game then great for them. The reason I like FCS football is we could be 7-4 with 3 losses by 7 points total and we can't get that playoff bid. Doesn't mean our season wasn't bad, just means that we fell short of what the selection committee thought was a playoff resume.
