Football is a JR/SR sport. Seniors (6th-year SRs) are grown-ass men. Talented athletes with 6 years in a college weight room better kick some butt. Spack is back. That's done. There's no debating that. As 4th points out he's got 55 grown-ass men on next year's roster. He'd be the 1st one to tell you expectations SHOULD be through the roof. Just making the playoffs will not be good enough. Next year's team needs to make a deep run. If not it's time for an overhaul.
100% agreed .. next season is a no excuses season. Part of that means hanging onto our 55 grownass men .. that is part of Spack, et al's job. So far, so good .. 🤞

2nd signing date is Feb 7th.

One last opinion. This offensive mind-play caller stuff means you'll be a good head coach is a pile of crap. Belichick, Saban, Tomlin, Landry...........The list is as long as my arm. A DC knows as much or more than an OC about offense. They have to if they're any good because you have to stop every kind of offense to be successful. Yes, by nature DC's tend to be a bit more conservative, but that's not always bad. Being a head coach is about recruiting, retaining, hiring, program philosophy, and LEADERSHIP.

Yes. In fact, I prefer a defensive/open minded HC who fully recognizes a good OC when he sees one, and lets them do their job ... this is my main critique of Spack. The past 2 years has shown so much progress .. though it didn't pay dividends until 2023 ... let's ride this wave to a playoff run in 2024. Then keep doing it after 2024 .. it will attract better QBs, WRs, and TEs .. and win more games.

Knowing what you know now would you (everyone) still choose Spack over Lujan (for the sake of this exercise we're assuming he would come here)

Before you answer, for the people choosing Spack, you would choose Spack over a 2-time national championship FCS coordinator that is not a B1G coordinator thats abround 30 years old?

I wonder how Lujan would do with losing 9 of 11 starters in 2024, leaving only his QB prodigy and 1 OL. Noting the QB prodigy, who mind you, has fallen significantly as an NFL prospect in the last year, even while leading team to the 2 Natty's ??

Good timing to leave SDSU as the OC who inherited so much in 2022, of which over 90% returned for 2023.

Answer is still no for me ... he has only proven he won't screw up when he inherits the top offense in FCS loaded with a bunch of stud 5th and 6th yr players. He has not proven he can build or rebuild an offense. He has not proven he knows anything about being a HC. And with the stock of Gronowski falling so far in eyes of NFL .. all Gronowski has proven is he can lead the best team in FCS, both offensively and defensively, to a Championship .. with 18 1st and 2nd team all MVFC players.

TPS .. let's see how Lujan "prodigy" Gronowski does next season ... his only truly "proven" accomplishment as a QB coach.

Again, good time for the OC born on 3rd base to be leaving. Next season, it would have been all on Lujan and Gronowski. no more Stigelmeier. No more OC Eck ... no more lineup loaded with 18 mostly SR MVFC all conference players (9 each for 1st and 2nd team).

Just maybe, Lujan isn't single handedly responsible for that already loaded offense he inherited in 2022 .. you think maybe ?

Good for him, I'm an MVFC fan who hopes he does well and has a lot of respect for SDSU program. And maybe he will prove he can build an offensive system himself. He comes from a great FCS program where he learned from one of the best in FCS.

Think NW has a former QB NDSU commit heading to Evanston.

One other note on bringing in a new coach or keeping Spack. At this point we’ve pretty much lost no one to the portal, which tells me guys are happy with their coaches and optimistic for next year. A new coach and the new staff that comes with him could change all of that quite quickly.

From time to time I'll nitpick a little when we're discussing Northwestern University. They brand themselves NU. There's no W in the branding. Their web address is nusports.com - NU. Here's a street address they use:

Community Relations
NU Athletic Department
1501 Central Street
Evanston, IL 60208

NU athletic department, not NW or NWU.

I know last time we discussed it, someone pointed out Southeast Missouri St. goes by SEMO. Bully for them. NU goes by NU. It's their call.

Thanks for listening, I'll go back to doing something productive now.

Haha love it.

While we are at it, I see EU on this message board a lot for Evansville, well, the basketball side at least, and it drives me bonkers! It's the University of Evansville (UE).

Back to your regularly scheduled program.
