It only took about forty-eight hours for the Kool-Aid jug to be emptied.

Lopsided roster classes? No apparent identity on offense? Is it groundhog day and we are discussing the latter Muller days?

For those Redbird fans feeling deflated by this blowout loss (I am) May I recommend catching a Metamora Redbird game if you can. A D1 Iowa vomit, a D2 commit, a probable D3 commit, and a Class of 25 likely D1 commit in Matthew Zobrist. They’re loaded.

It’s more a case of, we’ve been down for so long that our expectations are at rock bottom.
In essence, wins against teams we would laugh at decades ago are now considered huge wins.
It’s just sad.

Well. We fixed the free throw problem

This is why I don't go to in season tournaments anymore, unless the games are onsite at an all inclusive. Vacations and losses don't mix well.

Go to the tournament, but make the games a lower priority. It makes things way easier and considerably more enjoyable. If we ever get back to Cayman, we will be there. Great locale and the venue is pretty cool.

I’ll stick with watching my Rochester Rockets go for 9-0 (would be 10-0 if not for a few questionable calls back in 2009) in State Championship Games on Friday. Being an illinois State & White Sox fan, the Rockets are all I’ve had to fill my sports appetite. Surrounded by Cub & Illinoy fans does not make it any easier.

Geezus people, I'm totally blown away by how blown away you all are over one stinko (truly stinko) game, early in the season. I get it, we all had higher hopes, but you're runnin' Pedon out of town already? It'll get better, you'll see.
We beat 2 D-3s, got a decent win over LBSU where we overcame some glaring issues to win. Besides the win over EIU, you’re looking at the High Point second half comeback as a plus. The SLU loss, most of the High Point game, and this Wright State debacle showing how far this team still needs to come through a lot of poor play.

I am encouraged by some things, but we have a lot more we need to do to be competitive in the MVC on a regular basis. This team has the talent to upset a UNI, Drake, etc. It can also go out and lose by 10-15-20 to a bad team.

I am very optimistic about moves we have made, progress we have seen, and what this team has shown it can do. There is a huge step still towards consistency.

I cringe when some of these guys pull up from three (Lieb, Davis, Sissoko, Foster). Probably some clean up needed on shot selection and decision making. Still think the birds can dominate inside, but our bigs need to focus on that point. Hope we can find a way to keep Lieb out of foul trouble, so much potential if he can stay on the court.

I don't want to "upset" anyone unless it's Purdue or Gonzaga. I want our team to be better than Bradley or Drake. I really thought when Creighton left, we would be the big dog! Then, when Wichita left...I thought we might be the next in line. Next came Loyola, nope. It seems to be a reoccurring theme. I'm still hopeful.

The other problem with these guys taking 3's (Lieb, Foster and Lewis)...How are they going to get an offensive board way out there?

Here is how yesterday compares to some of our worst losses over the years:

11/22/23 vs Wright State 49-74
2/22/23 @ Drake 51-82
1/19/22 @ Missouri State 63-88
2/1/21 @ #25 Drake 60-95
12/28/20 @ Loyola 55-86
12/27/20 @ Loyola 60-90
11/25/20 @ Ohio State 67-94
2/20/19 @ Indiana State 50-73

You have to go all the way back to 11/15/04 to find a margin of loss even rivaling yesterday in a MTE. We lost to Marquette by 28 sandwiched between wins over Penn State and Ole Miss. I'm usually pretty optimistic, but yesterday was an embarrassment. We've had some ugly MTE results over the years but even those games against top 10 opponents, Power 5 teams, etc. were prettier than yesterday. We lost to Wright State yesterday. We showed we are not even close to ready for MVC play which starts next week. Pedon is in his second year. This is the last year he gets any sort of grace for results like this. This game can either tear the team apart, or it can be a turning point. I sure hope it is the latter. This is a deep roster with talent, now its up to him to coach it. I'd like to be in St. Louis the second weekend of March.

Edit: the Marquette MTE was in Milwaukee so sort of the same story as the Ohio State game but point still stands.

We need to figure out the wing position (among several other things). It was a position of depth coming into the season (if not a position of strength). Kasubke is averaging 16 MPG and 4.2 PPG (most coming against EIU), Davis is averaging 13.7 MPG and 2.0 PPG (most coming against Lourdes), Pence is averaging 13.3 MPG and 0.3 PPG. Figuring out this position will bring a lot of stability to our lineup. We need at least 12 PPG from these 3 in total, maybe closer to 15. One of these guys needs to become the guy. I believe they are all capable.
