Beating Tennessee in '98 and then going into the half of the second round game down just 3 points against top-ranked Arizona was pretty incredible. Not saying we would have beat that AZ team, but if Smiley and Schaefbauer were healthy who knows. That Redbird group was a great team

The thing is when Sampay got that rebound and kicked it out up 3 with under a minute left everyone was saying smart basketball play. With what we now know we are all saying shoot that ball.

At least he didn’t just to it to us; a year later UNI took down top seeded Kansas to reach the Sweet 16 on the same Farokhmanesh magic.

My all time favorite ISU team for sure. As a kid I don’t know if there was any duo that I disliked more than Kevin Ault and Danny Moore.

Champ also misses a layup in OT with 20 seconds to go up by 1. Would have been put us up by 3. They get the rebound and push it up the court and we foul. They make both free throws.

BU fan here. Just some things to be aware of.

Two inches of rain with wind expected tonight (Thursday).

Gas is considerably cheaper in Missouri.

Be careful in St Louis. There have been multiple incidents downtown including an execution style shooting Monday at 10 in the morning. Article.

Expect large crowds Saturday night downtown as St. Louis City SC plays at 7:30. This is their first home game and should be a sellout. Several downtown bars are having watch parties.

The Redbirds commence postseason play when they tip-off the conference tournament at Enterprise Center to face the Panthers.

ISU finished at ninth place in conference at 6-14 (11-20 overall) whereas UNI finished at eighth place in conference at 9-11 (13-17 overall).

The "Teachers" are led in scoring and assists by Darius Burford (12.8, 2.4) and rebounding by Kendall Lewis (7.3), Seneca Knight (12.1) and Lewis (10.7) also average double-digits; the other "Teachers" are led in scoring and assists by Bowen Born (17.2, 2.6) and rebounds by Tytan Anderson (8.8), Anderson (12.6) also averages double-digits. The 'birds generally go eleven and the cats go ten deep on any given night.

According to NET Ranking, Illinois State's (271) toughest opponent was Bradley (56, two losses), their best win was against Belmont (113) and their worst loss was to Illinois-Chicago (286); Northern Iowa's (219) toughest opponent was Bradley (56, two losses), their best win was against Southern Illinois (118) and their worst loss was to Evansville (349).

At this point in the season, there are more common opponents than not (although there were none in the non-conference); as far as strengths, the Redbirds have it in free-throw percentage, offensive rebounding and blocked shots.

UNI won both match-ups this season, 66-60 at CEFCU Arena and 65-63 at McLeod Center.

Both teams have been on extended slides, as Illinois State has lost six of their last seven and Northern Iowa has lost eight of their last nine.

Both the Redbirds and Panthers are dinged up. Colton Sandage (probably) only played token minutes for us last game because it was Senior Day, and Born for them has admitted he is both beat up and fatigued. I (personally) think this sets up as a good opportunity to avoid a season sweep. I think controlling the glass will be key; also, run the best six/seven players and ride them all forty minutes (do not worry about a potential next game until there is one).

Now, after all of that, I am not going to pick against a Ben Jacobson team until Ryan Pedon shows he has come up with an elixir to cure the ISU (in general) ills against his (Jacobson's) UNI squads as we seem to struggle to stay in-sync when facing them. He is the wild-card.

Appreciate these previews, 86. Agree on controlling the glass – rebounds between these two teams were close to even in the first two matchups. Birds are +.500 this season when they win the rebound battle. If they can gain an edge on the glass and keep the turnovers in check, I like our chances.

Here's to Pedon checking his first STL win off the list. Birds 65 UNI 64

So . . . you’re saying we should expect to still be playing on Saturday, meaning we take down BU on Friday . . . Appreciate the vote of confidence! 😉

Reality check! Our chances of winning this game are nil; we’ll maybe not nil, but close to it. We just don’t have the horsepower. Now miracles can happen. This could be one; but I don’t believe in miracles.

Take the Panthers at -4 and spend the winnings on booze to numb the pain of this dumpster fire of a season. The Redbirds are so far away from where they should be.

Up 16-14 . , , now down 28-18. Defense started out okay, now is non-existent. And that damn flop rule has got to go.
