I think they were. Mal missed one that could’ve put the birds ahead as well. Jk continues his case to be a starter. I’ve been talking about a wing needs to step up and contribute. The bigs did not have a good game at all. Too many shots were missed at point blank range. The strength of this team once again are the guards. DB had a great game, Klew had a good one also. Jk is a dog and will be a big time of for the program. Games before the conference schedule kicks are to get some good looks at kids for rotation purpose. On paper this is a deep team. Realistically speaking it’s probably different.
Mal makes that shot 6 of 10 times. He was calm faked and got a great look. That's life and nothing more to it.

Banks last look was ok but that's was not the play. Mal ran around one screen and was covered. Jk inbounded ball and stepped quickly inside but he really wasn't open. Banks got ball deep on wing. One look inside and one dribble and shot. Defender was there but not contested well. It was short. Lieb crashed hard to get rebound but it was out of his reach.

Wasn’t able to watch, but looking at how the minutes were distributed is tough to look at. Johnny only playing 15 minutes while Pence/Davis get 20+? Lieb playing as much as he did after yesterday only getting 5 minutes. I feel like this is one of those games where Pedon distributed those minutes better and we win.

6 turnovers and 90% from the line after yesterday is nice to see but this is really one we need to be winning in the end especially with tomorrow being a tough matchup either way you slice it.
I think Pence/Davis got those minutes because that’s the spot/position that’s giving less than others. Mal is actually back to playing out of position playing the wing/3. It’s crazy he’s playing that spot getting 12 pg. this team needs a wing with size to step up and they’re a much better bunch.

IMO it will be Pence, but he just hasn’t looked comfortable. I think once he gets a shot to fall it will make a difference.

How much time was left in the game when their big man and point guard had 4 fouls?

Well. Guards were all solid offensively today. Listened instead of watching so not sure if HPs shooting was poor D or just lights out.

Fixed the free throws

But the bunnies were fighting back all night in the paint. Sad

Perhaps Foster and Lieb run gassers for every 3 missed. It seems that they do not make them at a high enough clip to justify having free rein to take them Maybe Pedon feels they should, but it seems like a pretty automatic turnover because they don’t make them that often, and it also takes away someone we need rebounding.
Maybe they work more on their inside game. Imagine if they could dominate the paint.

3 assists for the entire game. That might be the most horrifying stat I've seen in years. Is that a misprint??? I have hopes for our boys this year but that stat leaves me absolutely dumbfounded. That's a scary number. 25 turnovers is not as scary as 3 assists. Go get em tomorrow fellas.👊

We just have too many bad offensive players who aren’t complementary on the floor to be consistently good. What do Kasubke / Lewis provide when they play together?
You brought this up the other day and it's the best simple statement I've read over the last 2 seasons. We need players who make OTHERS better. I am absolutely alarmed.

Lieb has got to make it happen in the paint offensively. There’s no excuse for being 7’1 and missing every single hook shot around the bucket. He went 0-6 in the paint. He’s an absolute force on defense and on the boards, so we need him on the floor more. Seems like he presses offensively and needs to relax and just make some easy plays. He’s bigger than almost everyone he plays against.
I totally agree. If he can hit a shot in the paint, our whole team dynamic changes.

I say all the time you can win some basketball games off of pure athleticism. They’re the more athletic team. Wide open looks be missed in every game, you make some you miss some. I would’ve been fine with JK taking the last shot as well. I’d start him but I’m no coach. I still can’t pinpoint what type of offense is being run yet either. I’m seeing one set screen and then one on one with the switch. Idk
I still can't pinpoint the offense being run going on 40 games. It's a valid point, Pops. I feel like as a team, we're much closer...yet so far away.

I’d love to see a play ran just for him to get a good look for confidence. That’s all that’s lacking in him right now.
I said this last year and got chastised. The measureables are there. He looks the part. There’s just a massive difference between A basketball and this level. He won’t be ready for a year. It happens.

I think we see the game the same way. We’ve had great efforts the last two seasons, individually. I’m not really interested in the games someone gets 22 and we all stand around watching him in a loss. Do we have five guys on the floor who are threats? Does the defense respect everyone on offense when they catch at all areas on the floor? Are we in a position where someone can make a play at all times? I don’t see it. I see an offense that has breakdowns almost every possession. The assist numbers I continue to point out metrically make the case. Eye test wise I think it’s the same. Too often we have 2-3 guys who aren’t threats to dribble, pass, score. It makes us way too easy to guard. I see it with a few. How do we get to a point where it’s all five and we are hard to guard? We are just easy to guard right now.

It's not that I don't like our guys. But I see one, maybe 2 guys, (but probably one) who are playing...that actually help others to be better by the type of game he plays and how he plays the game. (there's one on the bench that I believe helps the others get into a better offensive flow, but he ain't gonna play)

Now, I'm going to take a deep breath...and hope for the best again. GO BIRDS.
