Wright State beat Louisiana 91-85 to advance to the winners side of the bracket.

Hofstra smokes Buffalo 102-68 to advance to the winners bracket. There will not be a Sy Chatman reunion on the court. Sy has been a huge piece so far this year for a struggling Buffalo. ISU will play either Hofstra or Wright State on Wednesday.

High Point is coached by former Creighton AC Alan Huss. It looks like he’s brought some of the Creighton offensive philosophy with him, as High Point right now has an above-average offense predicated on crashing the glass and drawing fouls. It remains to be seen what we can get from our depth, but High Point shot 48 FT’s against Wofford and 30 against Iona. It’s beating a dead horse at this point, but if we can’t guard without fouling it’s going to be a parade to the line. On the other side, High Point has one of the worst defenses in the country. They don’t force turnovers and they don’t guard the 3. If we get good looks and don’t send them to the line, this is a very winnable game if we win the glass.

Not to take on Mel’s job, but it looks like we are 3.5 point favorites v High Point today.

The Hertz Arena floor is laid down over ice—it is clearly slippery for the players, and very cold for the fans. All nearby stores sold out of red sweatshirts after yesterday’s game.

The other semi-final has Hofstra (they beat Buffalo) v Wright State (they beat Louisiana) later tonight. Neither of those teams would be out of reach for the ‘Birds if we are fortunate to make it to tomorrow’s final.
