Jordan Davis played so damn hard tonight. Loved it. Cade Tyson had a hard time because of it.
IMO, on both sides of the ball...since the Norfolk State game and particularly here last 6 games or so...you can argue that Jordan has been our most consistent player and even one of our best over that stretch. Looking at stats - you may not think so...but his knack for the ball puts him in such good position offensively or defensively. He's an absolute key to our team right now.

The first 25 minutes was very good offensive basketball and flat out GREAT energy. If Darius and Myles continue to look for the open man in those gaps, it changes EVERYTHING. It is KEY that the ball gets underneath the free throw line and not just out on perimeter.

Thanks 'Birds!!

Birds match up pretty well against Bruins- speed, length, quickness, size is very similar and offense is similar as well. That being said, I thought the defensive effort was better than itโ€™s been the entire season, especially in first half. There have been a lot of times this year when we were just following our man around and tonight I saw guys trying to beat guys to the screen.Credit the staff for finally addressing the guards left defending bigs in the paint by bringing weak side help and saw Foster switch back a couple of times. Belmont came out and challenged the perimeter and that opened a lot of lanes to the basket early and we took it. Birds also got effective kick outs by Foster that created squared up perimeter looks we need. thought Kinziger had best game of season, he took what they gave him, didnโ€™t force shots and minimized turnovers. Both players and staff deserve credit for Solid win.

3 star freshman from Burlington Central Drew Scharnowski must be redshirting. We offered him out of high school.

Birds moved into a tie for 7th; however, I think we would lose the tiebreaker with Belmont due to NET ranking. Also .5 GB of SIU but they host Valpo tomorrow. I'll probably consider this season a success if we nab a 7th or better seed and win on Thursday.

Where's our normal announcer for our home games? Kurt Pegler, right? I know they have brought in some terrible color people with no connection to the university lately. But these two guys aren't any better. Let some of the TV10 kids do it. At least we'd have the excuse they are learning.
I wrote down their names at the end when they signed off - Kevin Lehman and Telly Hughes. Hughes is out of Milwaukee, an ISU alum and former baseball pitcher. I remember him doing an ISU game previously, but only once or twice. And not good as I recall. Lehman looks to be an announcer (and former sports anchor out of Cedar Rapids???) out of Iowa. Has done UNI broadcasts? Former UNI coach?

Yeah, I just looked at the ISU game notes on the web site, and their names are listed, as above. Not the credentials I threw out up there, but the names.

Iโ€™ll own it; I thought we would not win another game after Valpo. Wrong. Hat off to Coach and the players. Key points for me:
1) 26 for 57. 45.6 FG %.
2) 8 of 22. 36.4 3pt %. Still needs to improve, but much better. Needs to be over 40% consistently.
3) 18 of 23. 73.9% for free throws. Not great but a huge improvement.
4) Only 6 turnovers!
Best game of the year by far for the Birds. I still donโ€™t believe they have played to their potential, but โ€˜well doneโ€™ to them all. Keep it up!

5) Belmont made runs. Birds responded. Multiple times the lead shrank down to 4 or 5, but it never got closer than that. Belmont missed a few wide-open threes, but the D was generally solid and Birds ran their offense and hit the open shots when they needed to.

Refs also blew a lot of happy whistles, but kudos to the Birds for playing to the refs, drawing the contact and getting to the line.

I heard a stat that Foster is 70% from the line in conference games and its showing. Takes 100 free throws a day with a coach or manager.
From the first few games to now, his FT stroke is completely changed for the better. Beautiful form to my untrained eye, the ball has natural backspin. He doesnโ€™t roll or bounce them home - heโ€™s swishing.

Towards the end of the game, they threw up a graphic and mentioned the next Valley Game of the Week would be Drake at Valpo tonight, I think - suggesting that this was a VGOW, too. Would that have been the reason they booked these two announcers?

Did MVCTV opt out of this game, leaving it on ESPN+ instead of Marquee/Bally? 7 PM tip suggests it was always an ESPN+ game. Usually the regional networks prefer 6/8 PM tips.

Huge credit Myles for continuing to work on that to where I expect him to make his free throws now. He's a good hard working kid who takes to the coaching. His ppg is down but his rebounds are the best of his career and his assists to turnovers are positive for the first time in his career. If he works on his shooting and continues to learn in this offense he will be force.

Nice to see things swing back the other way after the SIU & Valpo games. Streaky bunch we have. Thought we were hopelessly dead in the water after Valpo but there's a spark left it seems. Now keep it going.

So I know people said this wasn't a good match up for Chase, etc. But 2 minutes? I am completely baffled on what we are doing with him. I don't understand taking off the redshirt for 6 minutes a game.

If he was playing 10 minutes a game and struggling, then fine. I get that. But if he isn't going to play anyway, what is the point? How do we know if this was a good matchup? He had 6 pts and 5 rbs vs Missouri St in 10 minutes.
