I've seen a couple of the Flames games this year. Mainly, wanted to see Max Strus in all his glory vs. the UIC backcourt. He didn't disappoint--and burned them for 25. Anyhow, we will be vertically challenged at just about every position again except point, where we have the slight edge (based on our previous starters), then it drops off even more for us if we get into our bench. UIC coming off of a decent year with one of the youngest teams in basketball, had a lot of high expectations, and it has yet to come to pass. UIC has struggled this year with some "decent" competition. They have been blown out 3 times this year, albeit once by Kentucky. Eye test says they are not the team they were last year, although they have comparable stats except behind the arc where they fell from 37% to 29%. Two starters are off of their averages from last year in a number of categories, but notably around 6ppg on average. This may be due to injury, Dixon (6-7) had an ACL tear.
They are predicted to finish in the top of the Horizon...but what does that really mean with no Loyola or Valpo?
The bad: we statistically will get out-rebounded and out-assisted and if we continue our shooting woes at home, they could go zone and pack it in with their size in the middle. They are not playing to their potential and could probably turn that around, eventually.
The good: They are not shooting well anywhere, and they turn the ball over at very decent clip. There could be a number of reasons why they are just not playing inspired basketball; new asst. coaches, different offense, or their lingering injuries with some of their starters.
The only reason I started this thread is to say that it would be cool to start the "final fighting five" of the Ole Miss game; but may not be wise considering the size of every other DIV-I team in college basketball.
