Chastain is now taking tinleys minutes because he hustles, boxes out and has a good attitude on the floor.
Exactly!! I am more concerned about the plummeting shooting woes of Jefferson who is now on a four game skid.

Please don't let this come off as a knock on Matty. He is having a fine season for his ability (and paying his own way to do it, BTW). If our identity is defense first, then I like Hein getting that much PT, but I have to think that coach isn't sitting a guy that can fill 3 positions serviceably unless something is wrong.

WT can play the 2 and 3 well and cover the 4 on most teams.

Tinsley can play the 2? It takes him like 3 seconds to take 1 step to his left.

If being passed by Hein on the depth chart doesn’t motivate Tinsley, then what possibly could serve to inspire him? Tinsley has some nice athletic gifts, but for whatever reason, is not leveraging those to produce results. It’s one thing to be in a shooting slump, but his fall off in rebounding, defense, and blocks, tells me he’s also in an effort slump. Underachiever, until he proves otherwise.

V BOY....You wanted to analyze performance.

Hein and Tinsley were very even in the 1st half tonight. Both had 0 points, rebounds and assists. Hein did have a foul. So, you are right they are about even. The sad thing is Tinsley did not play and Hein played about 10 minutes. Hein must have pictures.

Tinsley is always out of position in defense. That's why he isn't playing. Talented yes. Head in the game? No

That is fine and I agree. I just don't understand why Hein is playing.

Other teams play their guys 36 minutes plus. I don't know why we won't.

So, question:

Is Will Tinsley hurt? Why has he racked up a total of 5 min in the last 2 games while Matt Hein has been on the floor for 39?

The kid can hit from distance, has length to defend and has been able to play off the ball pretty well. He had 2 or 3 games last year where he absolutely carried the team, led the team in blocks and played all 33 games, and now he couldn't get on the court, it seems, if he were the only guy left on the team.

Why? What am I missing?

Because he has nothing between the ears.

Because we're a better team with Tinsley not playing. He's a 3 point shooter who can't shoot. He looks good in warm ups but he's soft.

I believe our best winning streak of the year was when Hein was hurt and Tinsley was playing. I did not do research on that, but I think that was the case.

Tinsley has the lateral movement of a stretch 4, the size of a 3, and perhaps the ball handling and outside shooting ability of perhaps a good 5.

He can rebound well for a perimeter guy, but he’s a little bit slow, in athletic for the perimeter, and he’s not a back to the basket player.

His entire offensive game is shooting from the outside, along with the ability to get some close looks/layups via a backcut and/or offensive board.

If he’s going to be on the floor more, he has to be more of a threat from deep.

The last two games Tinsley has began the game on the bench with his warm-up off sitting in one of the spots closest to coach. After the first few subs are made, he is told to go sit by Ike and Taylor.

To this point, I like Chas and the minutes he gives us. Always felt William looked good in warm ups,
and filled out his uniform well. Kind of a handsome lad who could be the face of our Redbirds for a magazine
article.

If Tinsley wants it, he will rise to the occasion and make a difference.

It's pretty simple. If Tinsley could play as good as he did the second half of last year then he'd be starting, or at least getting decent minutes. He was bad the first half of last year but we kept playing him because we had too many injured players. We're healthier this year, so who wants to tolerate bad play when we have options? If we put Tinsley, Jefferson and Evans on the court at same time we'd be down 20 in a blink of an eye.

Speaking of Hein, is DM watching the same game that I am? Hein should be at the very end of the bench. He has NO shot (his FG average is the Worst on the team at 26%). He is a poor ball handler. He only gets rebounds that find him. His defense is marginal but has never (?) blocked a shot. His FT% is 58%. Why is he getting minutes before Tinsley? I really don't get it. Ok, he is a nice guy, but is that it?

I will take Tinsley over Hein every day. Hein has zero upside potential. Tinsley can rebound and block shots. Hein can do neither and he cannot score nor does he get any assists. Tinsley has had games where he scored more points than Hein has had all season. I am very tired of people defending Hein. He is not good at basketball. Yes, he follows directions and that is it.

This is exactly the wrong way to think about this.

We have to stop analyzing potential and just analyze performance. If you don't perform over and over, then your potential is meaningless.

If performance is the factor; what is Evans doing the Court?

According to Dan, his D has been excellent in the first two games of the conf season, not so much last nite. Muller said Evans has been practicing really well lately, too. Plus I would think last year's performance might have gained him some points.

Tinsley was one of the best defensive players last year. Evans was one of the best overall last year. This seems to be a trend under Muller, of not getting the best out of the roster, and I have no clue why. I like the rosters he is putting together, but player development seems to be lacking.

I can't imagine taking Tinsley completely out of the rotation will help get him on track though.
