I'm glad to see some embracing Chastain. The kid can play. I think he's just getting used D1 speed. Remember, he hasn't really played since high school and has played limited minutes this season. It's probably generally unfair to be critical of players just three games into the season. I will point out a few things I've been impressed with.
Josh Jefferson can score, and not just shooting. I've mentioned it before but I think teams are going to have to plan for him like other MVC teams plan for Indiana State's Jordan Barnes.
I've really liked what Gassman has brought so far. He does exactly what he is supposed to. Yes, he lacks the athleticism to play a strong man defense but the rest of the team doesn't play well in the man anyway, so he fits right in.
As hinted earlier, Chastain can play. He will always shoot a high percentage because his basketball IQ is through the roof. Someone mentioned shot selection earlier, and he will never take a bad shot. He isn't overly aggressive, and takes what is there to him.
Rey is going to be a good player, but like Chastain, needs more time on the court to get used the speed. You can't teach his size and strength. You can teach everything else.
Phil is going to be in the running for MVC POY. He is so much more valuable than any other piece of the team and should touch the ball every possession.
Milik showed against Chicago St that he can take over when he wants to. We just need him to want to, every game.
I didn't mention Hein, Evans, Copeland, and Boogie because they haven't quite impressed me yet. Evans gets a flyer because he missed crucial practices weeks before the season. Copeland does too because he hasn't played in a year and is playing catch up.
