Reggie Redbird said:crazzymark said:Look what UCF , FIU, APP State, Troy and others have done since going FBS, growing programs and a direction, UCF went for CUSA(most likely where ISU would land to the AAC. and if a power 5 takes UCF and a couple more teams from the AAC, ISU could go there in just 3 yrs or less. There are stadiums now less that ISU that are FBS, because they have "plans" for expansion of their stadiums or new ones "down the road. ISU lack direction , ISU could easily be "THE" Sports University in the State, but now is the time while the uoi is struggling and all other schools making cuts or closing. UCF has 60,000 students enrolled on campus or online....ISU could do the same ...!!!
Sure, we could do the same. However, it would take many, many years to get there and billions of dollars in state money and/or donations to implement and build out everything needed to get there. It would also take a lot of land around campus to expand to triple our enrollment. If you can cut the first $100 million check, we could get on our way to growing.
Also, could you get started on getting many huge companies to relocate here to Bloomington-Normal? Orlando is a metro area with 2.4 million people. That really helps their enrollment. One reason it was tougher for us to compete with WSU in attendance was their metro area was much, much bigger than ours. They have more people locally to draw from. Orlando is a metro area four times the size of Wichita and many, many times our metro size.
Well was just 15 or so years ago, UCF was about the size of ISU, but online enrollment is 60% of the 60, 000 listed. As well do to low taxes and no state tax and penalties have added to the growth of Universities all over the state. With the financial demise of universities in Illinois, ISU can make a major move by being proactive and give students from all over the state to enroll online and on site. The change of culture only happens if you can envision that what you can do, not looking at what you cant. Don't dream your life away and waiting for tomorrow means that tomorrow will never come. As well it is also a sin to never try and fail, failure is the best teacher to grow, learn and win. Win at life, business or whatever the endeavor might be.
Bloomington/ Normal is almost twice as big than when I lived there. Towanda, Downs, Danvers, Hutson are now suburbs. SO there is always room for new ideas, growth and a bigger vision of looking at the future and change. (opps used the C word, Change.) :eusa-think:
