That's actually a pretty low line considering FCS v FBS. Home field is worth 3 points alone. Interesting.

Couple random thoughts...

...there is a ton of discussion on their forum about establishing their run game against us. Was a talking point for their coach on his weekly show, they say

... this game might act as a maturity yardstick for Davis. I hope he doesn’t force things

Echoed by Spack this week. The stats so far show a team that has relied on the pass. But Spack described their ballcarriers as downhill runners that will be a challenge for us. It may be that they've simply been in game situations that favored the pass.

They've really struggled running the ball this year ... we will win that game if they try to force it. Plus it would play right into our hands and strength as far as slowing the game down and let the trenches decided this. Their run game stats suggest they are not good in trenches and we are.

Definitely a maturity yardstick game for Davis ... and for OC Beathard ... need to play this smart to win. Got to keep their pass offense off the field as much as possible and let our defense catch their breath in that thin 5,000 feet air.

I think we can give these guys a good fight. It wouldn't shock me to see a low or no score first quarter as both teams try to assert dominance at the line of scrimmage. Big plays seem like they will almost certainly be a major part of the outcome.

Well after listening to the Brock Spack Show and then watching The Ram Report with Mike Bobo on my newly acquired ATTRM channel I'm even more primed for this game.

One advantage I see for Illinois State is that we have the more balanced offense. Colorado St. wants to be more balanced and I'm sure they think a FCS opponent provides a good opportunity to establish the run game, but we'll see how that goes. If the 'Birds are up to the challenge the Rams will revert to what they do best which is throw the ball.

That could expose a potential disadvantage for us. We expect to play a lot of players and our overall depth is very good but our backup corners are both true freshmen. If they provide relief I may have a flashback to the National Championship game when a true freshman got isolated in deep one-on-one coverage late in the game. Not good. It's not that I'm doubting the talent of our freshman db's. I've been very impressed with them but it could be a lot of pressure on inexperienced players. We'll see.

The good news is that almost everyone is predicting a close game with a good amount of scoring by both teams. Oddsmakers have CSU a 5-7 pt. favorite. So we're traveling to a FBS school and we EXPECT to have a chance to win in the 4th quarter. I'll take that. If it's close at the end the pressure will be on them. #Redbirds Rising Yeah I'm primed for this one.

Just saw on ESPN that CSU is wearing red uniforms today as a throw back to when they were Colorado A&M. So don’t get confused when you flip the game on

I don't feel a win coming on today, unfortunately. I think we'll move the ball some and score. But I'm thinking for sure they'll be able to pass on us, and if they get the running game going, even bigger trouble. I hope I'm wrong.

I see it:

Orange Rams - 31
Tough Redbirds - 24

Hope it all comes together today. I'll gladly eat crow.

Will be at DIII St. John's homecoming today, squeeze another week in at the cabin. ISU game on DVR and hopefully home for the 4th quarter live.

Congrats to fourth, Cooksey, grons, StL, Virginia and chuckie for keeping the faith and picking the 'Birds. Meanwhile Crazy was Crazy like a fox. Nice.

I wasn't all that surprised by the 35 pts for the Redbirds but I'm stunned that we held CSU under 20. We have no business doing that with all the players we lost from last year's D. McKnight was a great addition. The starting corners appeared to go the whole way and they stayed strong. The D did a great job of not giving up big plays.
On offense we got the big plays when we needed it and Davis wasn't sacked in 29 pass attempts. Robinson and Smith both made big plays when there was one man to beat and they made him miss. Yeah - they're special.

I need to rethink this team because before today I didn't think this was a National Championship team and now the Redbirds belong in the conversation.

I'll take my crow BBQ'd please.

Saw only the 4th quarter live, haven't watched the beginning yet, but looked like our boys did themselves proud. Even the announcers were talking about how the Birds would start to fade in the elevation, and then JRob cranked off that last TD run and said "take that Jack"!!

Should be plenty of motivation to get after the rest of the MVFC.

St. John's won 59-0 vs. Carleton. Great day for a ball game in Minnesota. 9000+ in attendance for Homecoming and Family Day for a DIII game, not too bad.

9K for a D3 game is just awesome. I've had kids play at both schools, but have never made it up there. That needs to change.

There are free-cancellation rooms in Frisco just begging to be booked. Just sayin...
