This is what North Dakota State is telling its fans about the change to ESPN+:

Almost all the games are accounted for now. FYI, I checked on the CSU Athletic website and there is no television coverage set as yet for the game with the Rams. We will have to keep checking for that one.

Does anyone know if the games that are slated to be on CSN/CSN + will Also be on ESPN3/ESPN plus in Chicago (same market), or will the games be blacked out online?

The 4 games scheduled for NBC Sports Chicago will also be on ESPN+.

I just hope that doesn't mean ESPN+ in every state but Illinois.

So to recap ... 10 of 11 on ESPN+ (or ESPN3), including 4 of those 10 also on NBC SC. Will suck if there is no option ($ or free) for our FBS game.

But putting aside the $5 subscription aspect (there are bigger things to complain about than this) and zilch for FBS game .. this is much improved TV coverage .. right ????

If I am understanding this accurately, got to give props to our Sports Admin folks for this and keeping The Next Step series going !!!!

Only issue I have with going to the $5 subscription is simply human nature .. we will lose some viewers in the short term ... some due to cost, some just due to people not finding and getting it streamed as easily as before. But we will gain more viewers ... and fans .. and donors over the long term, as fans come to expect to be able to tune into (almost) every game, no matter where they are across the country .. that is the huge upside .. this translates to butts in seats and $$$ from wallets eventually.

But I am assuming the days of bad signals with periodic outages will be over ... if we pay $ for the signal, it needs to work 99% of the time .. isn't that right ESPN ??????????

I'm not sure, but I do know that blackout rules can and do apply with ESPN+ exclusive coverage. I purchased the annual subscription the first week. Local MLS and MLB broadcasts are always blacked out.

As for the interface itself, I definitely prefer the WatchESPN app more than ESPN+. The new one isn't as organized, along with the constant uncertainty of available programming. I had originally thought that the app would merge with WatchESPN (which makes sense to host all ESPN online content), but apparently it still exists and hosts games. In fact, my Roku TVs no longer recognize the WatchESPN app at all!

Long story short, ESPN+ is not a step forward for our ISU sporting needs. It's going to work, but the additional cost and user interface doesn't exactly improve consumer confidence.

You would think, but I'm not holding my breath. The WatchESPN football feed from home games last year reminded me of basketball All-Access from 6 or 7 years years ago. Intermittent audio, handheld video quality, inability to successfully complete timely replays. They've got a LONG way to go before they earn the price of $5 per month. (We'll pay, of course, but the current setup looks brutal to casual fans and recruits.)

It would be nice if ISU could/would address any progress being made.

I'm not at our cabin where we have DirectTV, but it looks to me like the Colorado State game may be available on one of the regional sports channels (AT&T Sportsnet) on the DirectTV sports package. Will follow up in a few days when I get a look at it, but if you have DirectTV or can find a friendly bar with it, we may be able to see it.

Thanks for info.

Sounds like Watch Parties are the way to be able to see this game .. unless you're able to make trip. I'm sure Blono Bars will accommodate .. got to find other Redbird friendly bars.
