Experience and demonstrated achievement in real leadership positions, a background in the sciences, and a proven fundraiser. I just hope there is accountability with this search committee.
Mullenix has done some fundraising

“As a theater person, I am a storyteller. So I think one of the strengths of a good fundraiser is that you need to know your school really well. You need to know all aspects of it so you can understand the needs and so that you can champion all of the wonderful aspects of the college,” Mullenix said, pointing to her experience raising more than $40 million as dean and ongoing work on a billion-dollar campaign at Miami University.

To your sciences point, that could be a benefit. It is also a background that has not panned out for us. Just look at the last selection. The best thing an admin like a President or Provost can create is successful colleges, like Arts and Sciences, like Engineering. One could argue that it could be prudent to select someone with a business background, which seems to be the only background we have not pursued in a long time.

As to the others, we have candidates that have been successful. I would agree with you in not being blown away by specific candidates. If you don’t bring your best or your best isn’t up-to-par, you will quickly be dismissed. I do feel we have viable candidates, two who are well-known to campus.

We will not get the perfect candidate. If those even exist, they are getting 2x, 3x, or more in salary and benefits than we are offering with 10-figure endowments and huge donor bases with deep-pocketed boosters who are passionate about their universities.

So looking at the minutes of the search committee, they mentioned that yesterday's meeting (3/5/24) would be the last meeting. Any one know when the BOT meets again? I wonder if they will move to hire someone at the next meeting.

Looks like the BOT for end of March was cancelled. Next one isn't until May 10th. I can't imagine they will wait that long?

I can’t tell if you aware of this, but the Vidette reported there was a special BOT meeting in closed session immediately after the Search Committee meeting Tuesday. Should be an announcement soon I’d think:

Thanks I was not aware. I'm surprised WGLT didn't report that.

Yeah it’s fine. Now name a permanent AD and let's get going.
Hoping we get an ad with experience esp as respects to finances and overall athletic strategy/offering. Not thrilled with current marketing background but at least it is an interim situation.

Are you referring to Dr. Beggs? I mean she has served on all sorts of national committees and the like with regards to athletics. I'd be very happy if she stayed. I just am unsure if she wants to.

She seems to have high level national committee experience on the university side of athletics that could be valuable but does not seem to have any experience in the day to day operations of an athletic department.

Apparently, the last AD wasn't so good in counting the chickens before they hatched. It's a skill to know what you don't know. You can hire staff to chore up your weaknesses.
