I don’t think people hate Dan M. It is more why the previous AD gave out a seven year contract and the terrible terms of a buyout. More money per year for a three year deal would have been much more appropriate.
Agree with this 100 percent. Dan is a nice, intelligent, classy guy and presents himself well. Nothing to hate there. Dan also ended up getting relieved of being the head basketball coach due to a lack of performance. Well justified imo and happened well after it was justified in part because of a prior moron ad that did not protect ISU’s interest. Was the contract extension for dan muller justified? absolutely imo and I 100 percent supported the position. It was the terms negotiated and signed into a contract that made no sense and did not protect ISU. None of that is Dan’s fault and, as a matter of fact, hats off to Dan for doing right by himself and his family.

I am hopeful we learned from the muller lesson and did not sign Pedon to a guaranteed 5 year contract without having some buyout terms tied to coaching performance. Isu can negotiate any terms they want so why not negotiate the buyout tied to some form of performance measurement..ie after the 1 season ( coach gets a pass the first year) coach’s cumulative MVC conference winning percentage is the metric and the lower the MVC winning percentage the lower the amount of the buyout (or whatever makes sense ?). Lower tiered conferences seriously have to protect themselves because if they hire a good coach and have success the big university athletic departments can (and will) pay whatever needed to take our coach. We need to protect ourself in the event we hire an unsuccessful coach and need to terminate the contract. Isu absolutely should not sign any contract that they can not afford the terms to terminate at any point during the term of the contract. Hopefully we are protected with Pedon’s contract terms in the event the wheels fall of next year and want to make a change?

Or we need to hire a coach that is likely to be poached by the next level and negotiate a profitable buyout for us that will be a rounding error to the new employer.

Absolutely…,we should protect ourselves from poor hiring and also be rewarded for hiring/training and help develope a P6 coach !

One thing I just read, have lost the link, Holtmann is bringing this guy to DePaul from OSU. EIU grad, former SIU and Purdue assistant, HC at Miami Ohio for 5 years. Pretty solid resume.

Regarding Holtmann no longer at Ohio State, I'm curious what if any players Pedon recruited at Ohio State might be looking for a new home.

I've looked their roster over a couple times and they are very young, and have a couple guys who seem out of eligibility - so not sure there's much there to portal. Plus of course Diebler is a long time OSU coach and recruiter, so not sure it has the same effect on who might bolt, he's been their coach for a while.

Reading an article in the Indy Star about the possibility of Schertz to SLU - they seem to think it is almost "for sure" - they say the NIL pot at InSU, for all sports, is $95,000. All sports. The quote is "That's not a war chest. More like a war shoebox". Schertz salary at InSU reported at $365K, Travis Ford was getting $2.3M at SLU. Time will tell, but sure looks like money talks and BS walks.
