Taylor’s injury is nothing serious like it was before. It was a grade 2 deltoid ligament sprain in that foot. He’s actually ahead of schedule from what they first thought. Still taking it easy so they don’t overdue it.

Something more to this story. I was quite surprised to see Taylor come up BIG in a few games his freshman year. Two games I can think of that we do not win without him. We need him this year. All the best, kid. And if the foot can't handle all the intense stop cut and go of basketball...ole Duffy might like to see ya.

He just pushed off on that foot awkwardly when it happened. He’s feeling just fine. Just a bit sore right now. He’s doing to same rehab as Torres. He’s ready to roll. Fortunately no issues with the bone issue he had prior.

Woah, I don't see a presser posted anywhere... does this mean Jim actually got a 1o1 interview with Muller? Wow.

Good to hear (!) but still feeling uneasy. He's a good kid with a family legacy of the athletic chops.

Hope you mean Duffy Bass field, cuz Duffy's dead . . . and I hate the thought of a dead person wanting to see someone in particular . . . ;)

BirdFriend. You have to break it to me over redbirdfan.net morning bacon that Duffy has passed on?? That's more cold than this wet rainy suckeggs weather. Some friend you are.

PS. Not making light, I do realize Duffy had left us. I crossed paths with Duffy. The man would certainly liven up a room. His last ISU mugshot still scares the soup right out of me though. God bless ya Skipper!

""This is about as long an ankle injury that I've seen a kid out for which is not a high ankle sprain," ISU coach Dan Muller said late Tuesday morning in his Redbird Arena office. "Hopefully he can push through a little pain and start practicing soon."

i wonder if Dan has expressed this opinion to Ricky prior to speaking with Benson? He's basically calling him soft. interesting.

I took the same from that quote .. seems to me he thinks Torres should be able to play. I don’t know the situation, but seems strange to call out your PG on an injury when he’s been riddled with injuries in his career.

Duffy Bass survived kamakizes at Okinawa On a destroyer in which his ship was hit multiple times. Far more important than his coaching career. Just saying

I would agree. Surviving more important.

Was not a rip on Duffy. I was friends with Duffy when I worked in admin. He was retired by then but was a frequenter in the offices, always welcome, always up to rib and be ribbed.

I wasn't ripping on Duffy either. It's just eerie to think of the dead wanting to see someone, don't you think? Unless maybe he's the ghost of ISU past . . . and Taylor is Tiny Tiim?

Any update on Torres?

Agree with the tone of DM’s comments. Hopefully the two of them understand each other.

We may be giving Dan a bit much credit for trying to get Torres
back on the hardwood......Dan's not the most articulate guy and is
just saying this injury is dragging on and Torres will have to play through
some discomfort. I accept that as him just sayin.

My question - is Torres the starter over the freshman Horne?? From what I saw of Torres
in the summer practice prior to Italy - not exactly a pure shooter on that afternoon. Couldn't tell
by the short session if he was a superior floor general over any of the other guys.

For sure, we need all hands on deck in the very near term. From what I hear, Belmont is a going
to be a very tough challenge for the opener.

A lot of times, the best point guards are not “pure shooters.” Ricky shot it really well in Juco and then couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat at Wichita. But he could facilitate, play defense and be that calming factor not allowing the team to get worked up during adversity when he was on the court. Some intangible things there that are tough to expect out of a freshmen.

As far as his injury, I was told at worst it was a high ankle sprain that happened a couple of weeks ago and that he was held out of the Truman State game as a precaution. I think Muller might just be a little surprised that Ricky isn’t chomping at the bit to get back out there. This is his senior year, last chance to do something. He was given the gift of immediate eligibility. If I was in Rickys shoes, I’d be playing through some pain as much as I could. Hell, I have. Obviously not at the D1 level but have nonetheless.

It sounds like Ricky has beat out DJ for the starting spot. DJ learning behind someone with experience will be a benefit Paris Lee didn’t get. Get well, Ricky.
