I think one of the markets we want to bring in is students. This might bring in a few more of the 21 and 22 year olds, unless it is too expensive or not the kind of beer that college students drink today. I'm not saying I'm old, but we would buy a 6 pack of Bush to start, then drink Blatz or Wiedemanns the rest of the night. It was the economical thing to do.

Blatz is the best option here...not sure why you would pay the advertising costs baked into Busch's pricing.

Geez, I like beer as much as the next guy, but people can't get by a couple hours w/o a beer? Really? I tailgate before the football game, hit the bar before a basketball game, enjoy some refreshments, then go the game. No big deal I can't have one more. Hard for me to believe it will bring in very many more people in the end.

We still thought Bush tasted better, but the idea being once you have a few beers they all taste good. I'm not sure we figured in the extra cost of toilet paper by drinking Blatz. Maybe TP Guy could help out with a list of beers that increased his TP sales.

Bush is not a beer . . . but it definitely tastes better than Blatz.

You just brought back memories of the Bush vs Old Style feuds we had in college. Please don't tell me you were an old style guy.

Anyone remember Bladder Buster Wednesdays at the bar next to Josie's. I forget the name. 25 cent buckets of beer as long as no one used the bathroom or went outside. The place would fill up and we would get the table next to the bathroom and not allow anyone to use the facilities. It would end when someone, usually a female, couldn't hold on anymore. Early to mid '80s. Great time on campus.

Beer does entice me to go to a games.......but it also entices me to go out to dinner....to go a barbecue....to a wedding.....etc., etc, etc.

Life can be a bit of a grind.....Enjoying beer can make life seem a little less of a grind.

On that note, it's in the 50s here in Chicago and the sun is out. Seems to me, it's nice beer drinking weather. :p

Say what you will about the Illini but selling beer at redbird and Hancock would increase attendance of casual fans, and turn it into something folks who dont have a rooting interest in the birds would want to attend.

More for the casual fan but will there be limitations around consumption? I'd be worried to take my family into a game with a bunch of drunks. Games and experiences are quickly ruined because of this.

so you would not take your kids to a bulls/blackhawks/blues/bears/cubs/sox/cardinals game?

Solid move here. We always bought something better at first. After a few you couldn't tell the difference between a decent beer and a crappy one. Anyone remember the Wisconsin beer that came in bottles, a case was $4.00 on sale, maybe Buckhorn? Nasty, nasty beer. Sometimes the top of the bottle would break off when you would open it so we had a strainer and a bucket. We would strain the beer so as to remove the glass shards. No way in heck, were we going to throw away beer, even this crap.
Rheinlander? Wisconsin Club? $3.79 a case of returnables. As a bonus, you had the sideshow of watching sediment floating around near the bottom of the bottle.

I also think there was a convenience store on campus that sold Black Label for $2.29 a 12-pack ... nothing like watching the NFL while "enjoying" (enduring) some "Black Sunday".

Ok so I have been clamoring for this for a couple years now. When my wife and I invite friends to games they ask two things. 1. Who are they playing. 2. Do they serve beer yet. To grow our fan base we need to make it easier to grab the casual fan. There is nothing wrong with serving beer at games. If you think about a fan might have 1 or 2 but it is all about the social aspect of getting together with some friends and having a couple drinks while watching some ISU hoops. We already have bud light sponsor the games and our fan hang out in St Louis is at the Brew House. What could it hurt?

I would think taste of Redbird would be a good litmus test of how many drunks would be walking the arena ... easy choice ... sell the beer.

We had a guy move in with us who'd gone to Western, and he turned us onto Leinenkugel, which he drank over in Macomb. Went for around $2-3 a case if I recall.

Anytime we'd go to Wisconsin, to a race at Road America or camping, you'd carry back a few cases of Point. Good stuff!! ;)

And then also Old Milwaukee, which we called "Old Milk", or Olympia, Oly!

The sport of fishing wouldn't even exist without beer... same with darts and bowling.

At taste you have to stay in the beer area with your beer, right? It seems they are confined. Not saying the lower bowl will turn into the bleachers at Wrigley in July, just saying if that's a true test or not

But they still get to go to the arena for the game

A test from the standpoint how many drunk fans headed from taste over to RBA and created a scene.
