Welcome aboard, Gabriel Joshua Megginson!

Look's like a goof ball - my kind of guy.

. Only real concern is we need to find a center who can block and snap in shotgun.

Watching that rainbow snap was so painful this season. It threw timing off every play

Makes me laugh that we'll sometimes bastard'ize the Illini on this board...but we'll highly applaud an Illini transplant to Normal.

Better than stalking a Redbird player who leaves to go play for another school

Any reasons given for him transferring?

have not heard anything .. but his starts declined last year compared to prior year. So thinking, he is falling on depth chart and just wants to play. Maybe got banged up and fell out of favor.

Video is kind of funny, but he seems a little too much into being a funny guy all the time for my liking - hope he is capable of being serious. But I don't assume this impacts is attitude or play on the field .. not yet.

p.s. DC Nowinsky will chew him up and spit him out if needed.

He reminds me of Dalton Keane the way he's goofy. I mean did you see Dalton at the coaches show this year? Kid is a hoot. I'm not worried about his goofiness, I'm sure he will hold himself just fine on the field. I've known plenty of D1 athletes that have been funny and carefree off the field but have become all sorts of focused come game day. Gabe seems no different. Plus, he is only a college kid. Give him a break

not so sure about comparison to Dalton's antics .. I don't see any similarities after watching Keene interviews for 4 years. But I haven't ruled him out as getting it done on field .. and said as much in my post. I trust the coaches will figure it out regardless of what I think.

Only concern I have for any transfer is its not quite the drop off in talent I think many expect. If you've become bored and/or complacent with playing a transfer to FCS isn't going to succeed. On the other hand, there are plenty of examples of quirky off beat personalities that are very capable. Often they need a change of venue to be appreciated and ISU might be willing to evaluate him based on his performance and allow Gabe to be Gabe whereas at a FBS program his personality may be over scrutinized. Especially a losing one with a Coach in the Hot Seat! Being someone who appreciates athletes who aren't defined by what they play I hope Gabe still has the desire and he becomes another example of a young man who is a great athlete, who isn't defined by athletics. Welcome Gabe.

I think Megginson is a capable OL starter in the Big 10. Lovie inherited a roster with horrible depth though. He was trading wins this year for developing his roster for two or three seasons later. Good players were getting bumped in favor of developing freshman, Megginson included.

This. The Illini aren't going to win during Megginson's eligibility clock. With the state of the Illini program, his scholarship is worth more to them to use on a recruit than on him in 2018 or 2019.
