From what I understand of the investigation, there is some truth to these accusations; though not as "firebrand" as Coach Jones believes it to be. My take: They both should have been ejected; They both behaved badly and both forgot they are leading young men. Oddly, the young man who was taunting for 35 min was the one that had to literally hold Jones' emotions in check. It was embarrassing as a fan, and if Pedon really had an issue with him going on the court (or whatever he first said), he should have been in the ref's cookie jar. I would have respected him more if he was the cooler head. He was emotional because he was losing.
Good perspective. Not certain what "Some truth" means...however even an ounce of racism is uncalled for and an embarrassment to all of us. If ISU validates the "some truth" then whomever is worthy of a ban from all of ISU and I hope his name becomes known so he can be shunned.

After seeing this event unfold on TV and reading articles and this thread here is what I think.
1. Weā€™ll never know what exactly was said between the fan(s) and the the NSU player- Thomas
2. IMO the NSU coach had a right to be upset and protect his players. I am okay with him getting on the refs. I donā€™t think it the refs job to have a lengthy conversation with a player about what not to do. Keep it short and if a longer explanation is needed, talk to the coach.
3. I am not sure why Pedon felt the need to get involved with the NSU coach and the ref. It didnā€™t pertain to him or the ISU players. It was not a good look for him and it backfired on him.
4. ISU has released their statement. Pedon explained himself to the NSU coach in the handshake line and again in a phone call the next day. He also released his statement.
5. If ISU can determine who the fan(s) is/are who used the slur and confirm a slur was used, they should be banned from attending future athletic event. Iā€™d be open to some type of sensitivity training to have this reversed.
6. ISU MBB should play at NSU next year. No reason not to.

In my opinion, itā€™s time to move on and get ready for the next game. There isnā€™t anything more ISU can do (outside of #5) to fix this issue. And for the record, I like coach Pedon. I have no concerns with him as a coach or concerns about his character moving forward. Any attacks on him and unwarranted.

Minor correction: NSU coach called a press conference to say he refused Pedonā€™s call and he has no interest in talking to him again.

If they continue with the Horton tradition each year, I hope wiser minds decide not to serve alcohol there. This game already gets everyone amped up to the nth degree and I donā€™t think itā€™s worth the risk of getting some guys (or gals) taking on their beer muscles and flexing those beer muscles. My young sonā€™s eyes grew to coconut size while witnessing the unfortunate event on Saturday. Still, it made for an interesting conversation during the car ride home. Fortunately, thereā€™s often a valuable lesson in almost every encounter.

Sometimes things just donā€™t add up. End of the day it should be the refs, but what, why, how do/did they know before the game and during the game what was taking place. They could or should have seen the level of temperature rising even during warm ups. Did they know about the tendency to ā€œflopā€ before the game or only during the game. Not only the coaches but what about stopping the game or during a time out bring the captains of the teams to center court to discuss the situation. What about a public address announcement to warn the crowd to be civil to opposing players, etc, etc, etc

None of that matters now. ISU in a position of if it did happen =bad. If it didnā€™t happen = a conspiracy or cover up. Just move on and know the next time you eventually will play NFS is in an end of the year tournament. ISU basketball history is pretty inclusive. Look at past head coaches and players for some examples.

Lastly internet exploiters will try to latch onto any controversy to attract clicks. Not much you can do about some of that. Just keep moving forward and it will eventually get behind us.

ISU bball should play at NSU next year? No reason not to? You cant think of ANY reasons not to? Are you seeing what is being said about Pedon on social media?? That just doesn't go away and ISU shows up in Norfolk next year. The coach wouldn't even take his call. ISU may "move on", but I would imagine every road game is going to be quite interesting from here on out.

From what I understand, the only perspective Pedon had from his vantage point is that their coach was out on the court yelling and throwing a fit during a highly contested contest and any coach acting that way should be called for a technical. Heck, even "stepping out of the coaches' box" should be called a technical. So Pedon was pissed and yelling at the refs to call a technical on their coach, then their coach started yelling at Pedon (as if they could hear each other from that far away in a loud environment) and their coach clearly said "F**k you" to Pedon as they were getting closer to each other. I'm pretty sure coach Pedon heard that.

Again, I put 100% of the responsibility for how bad this turned out on the refs. All they had to do (and should have done) was call both coaches together at half court and whatever they were going to tell the NSU coach, they should have said to both of them at the same time. If the refs did this, it would have been a non issue.

Right, after how ugly this has gotten, including threads on Twitter/X from NSU fans directed at coach Pedon and our players, that's plenty reason to not schedule them anytime in the near future.

The circumstances leading to this long thread are unfortunate but a near 20 page thread after a Birds loss isnā€™t something we have seen in a very long time.

It was embarrassing to talk about it with my boys; because I had touted how great this is. I get it, @Alleyoop

Ok, I admit, playing at NSU next year might be a bad idea. ISU will probably look bad whether they play the game or not, but ISU just needs to move on. I think anything more said just opens the door to it being used against them.

We all condemn racism. Pedon could have handled differently. Heā€˜ll learn from it. Heā€™s a man of good character. On to the next.
