I blame our admin for this crap. By not saying anything, the kangaroo court of public opinion fills the void and the school and coach gets dragged by a bunch of idiots with no knowledge of what happened or didn’t happen.

Well played, ISU, well played.

Sarcasm.
ISU athletics and its AD director should be making any comments if comments are going to be made. Leave the university side out of it.

Yeah- silence is not a good look. Not only have they not said anything about the incident, but the main ISU athletics Facebook and Twitter accounts haven’t posted anything at all since the game last night. That’s really weird and uncharacteristic of ISU given how big of a game the women’s team is playing right now.
That tells me they are trying to stay off the radar!

Here goes…..as an AA Man, if you were to use the N word toward me I’m likely going to be wrapped on you like a band-aid on a hairy arm. I would have expected the kid Thomas to react the way his coach did. NOT…..chat with the refs, then line up to shoot FT’s, and then only after the ref approaches his bench tell his coach I was called the N word.

Davis(#5) ISU, also Black….was within earshot and never flinched, or reacted to this supposed racial slur.

Which leads me to believe the Ref didn’t hear Jack Sh*t, and that kid wasn’t called the N word

It’s akin to the Boy who cried wolf! He can’t take it back because it looks bad he lied, so his coach has to double down on this BS rhetoric. If ISU apologizes without any REAL substance I would lose all respect for the Admin.

I hate to call a kid a liar, but if it don’t fit….you must acquit!

If the administration believes the player made up being called the racial slur, I don't blame our admins for remaining silent and waiting for everything to blow over. Revealing that publicly, even if it's the truth, would be another powder keg.

There's no good solution given the state of social media.

BYU went through a lot with their situation that was found to be completely made up. The only thing I’m confident in is that nobody clearly heard anything with how loud it was the entire game and after every foul.

A generic “the matter is under investigation” would have been better than where we are right now. And I agree with you to a point about a favorable solution being achieved on the socials, but silence here speaks volumes.

I tend to try zoom out and think long-term how this impacts things. Does this cause Pedon to start to think about how the university doesn't support him? I'm sure if I was the HC and this took place and the university clammed up and my AD/Deputy said nothing in my support or to stop some of the blowback I would be pretty upset. It also is another episode in a long line of complete non-transparency from this department / university. Why did Kinzy leave? Why did Brennan resign? What is happening with the IPF funding? What is going on with this issue? When things get hard, it seems ISU just does nothing and I don't get it.

I think Jordan Davis was over there too.

I cant find it but I believe I saw where the Norfolk coach said that he told Pedon while shaking hands why he was upset. If that happened, I am not sure why Pedon made the comment he did in post game.

I will look again and see if I can find it

WGLT has statement from ISU

“Norfolk State is a historically Black university (HBCU). Illinois State University is what’s known as a “predominantly white institution,” or PWI.”

More accurate statement would be:

Norfolk State is a predominately black university. Illinois State University is what’s known as a more racially diverse institution.

ISUFan1 welcome back. Did you parachute in? You might want to bail while you can!

*So did the officials tell Pegler and partner that a racial slur was made? Or "idiotic comments." Or did they say anything at all to the press table? I didn't catch the officials talking to those guys but I prob missed it...even though I was sitting a row behind them.

I'm pleased with the statement but a little surprised it didn't come out a bit sooner. I'm sure there are many reasons and I guarantee the conversations amongst ISU school admin have been many up to this point.

This kinda feels like I'm a kid again watching Dallas on Friday nights in the late 70's.

Based off NSU coach's post game remarks, it seems very possible that Thomas was the only person who heard this alleged slur. Coach Jones said that Thomas is the one who informed him that the fan said the slur. Jones said he then went to tell the ref and attempted to confront the fan. It sounds like the flow of information was from Thomas to Coach to ref. As a ref, of course the immediate response is to apologize, what else are you going to say? I don't think this is going to go anywhere. I do not think there is anyone who can corroborate Thomas' accusation unless a nearby fan heard it and comes forward. It seems evident that neither the refs nor any other player on the court heard it. This is a real mess and I think the University made a good statement, although I wish it could've come sooner. They need to protect themselves from a lawsuit, so there is not a whole lot more they were able to say.
