figured that out eventually .. we do ok fan wise, but ours can be very fair weather.

If any fan base has a right to be fair weather it’s Illinois State’s. If the university isn’t going to be serious about reaching their potential in athletics, you can’t really expect folks to be that emotionally invested in your program/dept. it’s a shame because it doesn’t have to be this way.

Given ISU is FCS fan support has been good and as good as it will ever be , IMO. There is no upside with fcs

All of this already been said, but I need to vent.

The frustrating thing about Davis is that he CAN be very good. We will have a long season if he doesn’t show us the “good” Davis on a more consistent basis

Gillum was open short in the flat, open deep down the sideline, and open over the middle. He needs to get many more throws.

Who knows, if our passing was more fearsome, there wouldn’t have been 7-9 guys pounding Robinson. If JR couldn’t run around the edge from behind center, how about throwing to him out in the flat?

How bout some love for our kicking game? Kickoffs, punts, field goals and extra points all very good.

That’s all, thanks.

He just needs to swallow all that false pride and humble himself. Stop talking about and pretending you are already great .. as if that will make everyone around you believe it. Start acknowledging and talking about the things you need to work on to make this offense successful ... want to prove you are a great leader, admit you have things to work on .. or you will lose this team.

I know this is a thing now where too many parents raised kids to think they are great no matter how great they are not. Don't confuse being a great human being or son or borther or friend with being a great football player ... not related at all. Not everyone is great. And most people are less great as theyget older and play against a bunch of other players who were also "great".

Back to basics, humble yourself ... do that and your teammates will stick with you thru thick and thin. I'll be perfectly happy with reliable, and then work on pretty good in 2019. Let the defense and run game win the games ... need you to manage games and keep opposing defenses more honest.

But please ...no more talk about being great .. or 2020.

Its an absolute joke that we are still FCS, we should be embarassed that a directional school is FBS and we are not.

Brutal to watch easy to fix. Maybe. You throw a football with your feet. If your feet are right everything else follows. There were two problems I saw.

His wrist fires early and the ball sails when he throws off his back foot.

The ball goes low when he doesn't fully extend his arm because he's not setting either foot. Happy feet leads to short arming the ball.

He's gotta crush pebbles with the balls of both feet. His arm will follow and he'll get full extension. He's got it in him. The throws he made with his mechanics right he threw pretty well. He just didn't do it nearly enough.

They can put that stretch play away and run some power. I hate that lateral run stuff against a faster team.

As Birdswin says, good observations. And one would think between Beathard and the Manning Camp, all that stuff would be beaten into his head by now!! Will be a long season if we're gonna be bitching about this till late November :(

if his mechanics come around like Timmy suggests, he will have more success, and his confidence should start to return. Then maybe he will learn to relax mroe when throwing and trust his body to do what it is perfectly capable of doing. There is no lack of ability here and he has strong pocket sense .... he just doesn't seem to panic under pressure as pocket collapses and knows to take care of ball. Maybe it is just mechanics .. problem is, he is in his 5th year .. I know he didn't play a real game for almost 4 years (since HS) ... but he should have this throwing stuff down.

But if he does figure this out, and turns this ship in right direction (i.e. pass game) .... please remember the low points ... being grounded makes it a lot easier to work thru the thick and thin. Learn a lesson in humility.

Never played QB, but ya gotta think if it’s not there after all that, it never will be. You know, muscle memory and all that...

:text-+1: on both. If mechanics are the problem it will be a roller coaster ride at best trying to correct during the season.

I thought there were a couple plays early that there were guys around his feet. That's the worst. Stepping into a throw, planting the ball of your foot and crushing gravel with a 300 lb. fat kid headed for your shin/knee. It can screw up anybody. That and my pus arm is the reason I never played that position.
I think he'll be OK. I thought the end of the game was much better. All QB's go through stuff like this.

No argument but isn't that what Spring Ball and Fall camp and offseason is for? To get the mechanics right? When does it start to show on the field? Most of the comments on this board after the NIU game were out of frustration and in some part because we have all seen this before last season. I agree, all QBs go through stuff like this but some don't ever pull out of it. Problem with Brady right now is he talks really cocky and really big. His play does not back it up yet. If you are going to swagger you better be a Pirate.

I get what you're saying about the cocky stuff. I'll sure take that over withdrawn and mopey. But I get what all y'all are saying and I'll bet the kid gets it too. I've gotta stay positive. Especially this early.

Did you guys catch the postgame quotes in the Pantagraph? Davis wasn't talking cocky after the game.

I've watched Aaron Rogers lose his mechanics for periods of time. Especially when he gets the crap knocked out of him. It has to be drilled every day. You can't just say he should have it down by now. It doesn't work that way. I was OK with QB's but just OK so I would send them to a guy named Jeff Trickey. Trickey's the best. And then drill it and drill it and drill it. Same at any level.

I used to think hitting a baseball was the hardest thing to do in sports. Not anymore. With what defenses throw at you I think it's playing QB.
