When the DM bobblehead was given away at RA a few years back I asked the manager of the Alamo II about making bobbleheads for ISU players. He said it would never work because of the NCAA getting in the way and a whole lot of red tape, etc to get it approved along with it not being financially conducive. I wonder if things such as the jersey and other items would work now as BirdGrad2011 is showing for Baylor. I would love to purchase and support merch from past Redbirds. Mid-Major programs need to be just as creative as P5+ schools even if revenue streams would be smaller. I am definitely on board to support NIL products from Redbird Nation.
Haha that being said, I remember in my years ISU, Osiris Eldridge was still a Redbird and the Alamo sold one isu hoops jersey and it happened to be the number 0. Coincidence?

And it's things like that where I agree with NIL. If the Alamo sells jerseys with 0 on it when he played, he should see some of that money. Or video games. But not to make social media posts or "other charitable activities' or whatever working they use for these NIL groups.

Crazy thought...so you want NIL to ACTUALLY be what it was intended to be? Wild. (please note the sarcasm).

I agree. Let them sell jerseys, get paid for being in video games, etc. But a lot of the P5 have developed NIL groups that are literally pay to play. "Hey, come here and we'll get you an NIL deal with this landscaping company where we'll pay you 500k to turn on the automated sprinklers...." I hate it, but that's why I'm just gonna keep the blinders on and focus on the game itself. I love college basketball too much to let this bs that's been happening forever and just now became "legal" ruin it for me.

I like to think at the end of the day, during the third week of March, no one playing is thinking about NIL.

(1) Athletes are not getting paid to turn on the sprinklers; their NIL is just supposed to convince prospective customers to let this company turn on your sprinklers.

(2) They’ll be playing for next year’s NIL.

Listened to the Illini Pella Saturday SportsTalk with some Illinois media guys -including Kap - discussing the impact of NIL including the topic between majors and mid-majors. Interesting comments from the group.

All kinds of crazy stuff going on such as majors having bidding wars for players and majors working with mid-majors to develop players for them for a couple of years to then ”promote” them to the ”bigs.” I mean that was already happening unofficially with the current transfer rules. Now it is being negotiated.

Everyone realizes mid-majors will need to go the St Peters route and recruit good players that can play defense and have a solid point guard and a coke machine in order to be competitive at that level. Any mid-major that has advanced in the tourney in past years has always had very good defenses such as George Mason, VCU, UNI, BU, Loyola, Wichita State, Dayton, and Butler to name a few.

There must be some governing around NIL along with the transfer process. I think the St Peters of the world can still exist but it will be interesting if MMs start bidding against each other for players.

I'm sure there are things that go into it that I don't understand but when they did the "Athletics Garage Sale" a few years ago, jerseys of all sports were a hot commodity. I grabbed 3 baseball, a couple softball, and some practice MBB jerseys. There's absolutely a market for it.

The Kolbe one that was mentioned wasn't technically Kolbe. I believe they used the number 16 because it came out in 2016. Similarly the student giveaways at basketball the past couple years have been a generic #6. Of course, playing on the "6th man" idea but also the fact that players can't wear the number 6, so no concern over "using a players likeness."

I'd jump on a customizable retro white and black that they wore this year.
Put me down for a pair of retro red/white striped shorts..
