My point is this:

Bison are better everywhere. Coaching, players, systems, facilities etc. If you want any chance to beat them it starts with zero turnovers and zero penalties.

That said this game is over and I still think we can make the playoffs. Got our asses totally kicked yesterday. How do we respond?

Not making excuses but for my own morbid curiosity I would have liked to see if Edgar and Grimes could have done anything against those corners.

Hopefully Edgar can return in a few weeks.

NDST is so good. They are a .500 team in the BIG12 or BIG10. Too talented, disciplined and too systematically well coached not to be.
This is the point here, I agree with!! You have 3 winnable games coming up.
, move on. You cant give ndsu the breaks we gave them and expect to win or stay in the game. From the fumble, the 53 yard yard, the 79 yard kickoff bc then you look at the score and its 16-3 and it turns into a slow onslaught.
What I was upset at it looked like we were slow and outplayed at the line of scrimmage on both sides. The d-line and linebackers were nowhere and Brady didn't have time. I thought our o-line and front 7 in defense was better then that.

Judging by his public comments, Spack seems to feel like there is a great deal of talent on his roster. If that is true then this arse whoopin' falls squarely on the coaching staff. Their players were outperformed in every way yesterday by a team that has a brand new coaching staff and a ton of player turnover. How do we explain that away?

I was really excited to see Beathard return but now I am really wondering if there is a difference. You have to design your offense around the players you have so then maybe it is recruiting that is weak. In any event, it is an insult to the word vanilla to call this a vanilla offense.

So...based on this being the same, predictable, pathetic, offense again, is it safe assume that Spack has his fingerprints all over the play calling?
I mean, different OC’s...same results.
Hmmmmmm.
Maybe time for a change at the top?
Also, maybe now we know why Spack was never offered a fbs job. I always found it odd he wasn’t lured away.

I agree it was predictable but let's give them a game or 2 bc it really wasn't the offense yesterday. Beathard hand was tied after we got down early. Everyone knew we were gonna Robinson and we did with success. Ndsu was good at getting to our new receivers and jamming them at the line of scrimmage. The receivers weren't getting separation and the line wasn't blocking. When we got down all we could do was throw without top 2 receivers. None of the above holds good for Beathard and play calling. Our hope was to keep it close and defense get stops which they couldn't. 293 yards by ndsu is a big problem.

It is but we weren't gonna win a shootout. When we got down 3 scores Beathard hands were tied bc the o-line couldn't block and the receivers couldn't get open or separation? With that what's Beathard supposed to do?

My hope is more posters put up stats of how good we are compared to last year! 6-5 or 5-6 this year will turn into telling us stupid stats from the year before and how the next team Is going to be great. How great were our lines today? Please let us know. This game is called exposed.

so what was point of this post ?

Just a quick comment before reading more of this thread -- okay, we got beat like a drum. But the goddam Bizon have a 25+ game winning streak, a hundred national crowns in a row, they have already beaten #4 at home and #18 on the road, blah blah blah. It's not like we lost a "sure" win here folks. We get dumped in Macomb or by the Salukis, then let's have some serious talk.

I think it's a fair question tho -- is Davis not executing the game plan, is the game plan no good, is Beathard dialing it back because Davis can't pull it off and/or the rest of the personnel is inadequate (the "Trubisky" syndrome)?

I did not chart the game. It is just an impression but I don't see this Beathard had no choice mantra. In the first drive, the Birds ran consecutive times to Robinson and picked up a first down. Then they threw and the fumble occurred. After that, it seemed the passing game disappeared. Run on 1st down, run on 2nd down and then 3rd and long send Brady back to get chased around and sacked. Even at the goal line no creativity. You have an All-American running back and the Bison know that. Everyone expected exactly what happened. Robinson direct into the line for a loss, twice in a row. Then the penalty (good teams don't do that in critical situations). Now 3rd and goal from the 8. Guess what...drop Brady to throw. What else are you going to do? Spack may have well as walked across the field and handed the Bison the Redbird playbook. They knew exactly what was going to take place. Very well coached. Maybe a play action and run Brady outside...they would have surprised absoutely everyone...including every single Redbird fan! Monday morning QBing I know but one of the strong points about Brady was supposed to be mobility. It does not look as if they are using it.

Davis has a significant limitation wrt to arm strength. He had receivers open deep a couple times, but lacked the arm to get the ball to them. But I think he was flushed the pocket both times and appears to be much better throwing with his feet set.

But the O-Line... Couldn't protect Davis at all. And that series from first and goal. Just awful. We outweigh their defense front by about 50 lbs on average. We should have been able to push them into the endzone, right? Instead they stood our O-Line up at the line, filled the gaps and gave JR nowhere to run. I wasn't close enough to hear, but Etheridge was pretty animated on the sideline after that.

With all due respect to everyone but Davis in our last game threw for 419 yards. Let's give this a week or 2. You were missing 4 starters and the top 2 receivers. Being down 2 scores your not going to abandon your best player and just start passing.
Davis was on the run, throwing on the run, that's tough. He didn't have time to throw. If this continues vs siu, wiu and indy state then there is stuff to worry about but not vs ndsu and a team that's won 26 straight games and 7 of 8 national championships. With the 1st n goal at the 1 that o-line should be embarrassed for getting shoved back twice regardless if ndsu knew the play. You still have to go out and block it up and we didn't do that.

I have to disagree with you on this one. Even if you bring in two tight ends you have 7 O linemen blocking. They put 8 or 9 in the box and you have a mismatch regardless. If the D has no doubt what you are going to run it is not that easy. The Bison D linemen may have been smaller but they are quick and their linebackers filled the holes just as quickly. I would not want to be the offensive lineman going to the line and there was no doubt in the mind of the defense where we are going and who is going to get the ball. You are at a severe disadvantage. So if Robinson is so all world why cant he just drag 11 Bison with him into the endzone from one yard out? Nobody thinks that but the O line is supposed to block more people than they have when everyone knows the point of attack. I have to put this on the shoulders of the coaching staff where it really belongs. No creativity at all.

If you have an All America RB - an O Line that outweighs the D Line by 50 pounds and you can’t punch it in - you have much bigger fish to fry.

It is but when hes rolling to his right it takes away half the field. Now one deep pass Davis is gonna regret bc Kacper was wide open and Davis missed him. But Davis didn't have time, I said it during the game and Spack said the same in his post game press conference.

And no creativity may be an issue, all I'm saying is let's give it a few weeks and see. Hard to be creative when you're without your top 2 receivers. Ndsu did a great job of jamming them and not letting the receivers get open. Let's see if this continues. I'm not saying it's a problem a week after we threw for 419 and put up 40 points. Was it not creative then?

I even thought Beathard tried to be creative. We used Robinson in the passing game with screens more, Proctor was lined up at fullback and took the handoff. But in terms of spreading them out I'm not sure you're going to do that without your top 2 receivers especially when your front 5 couldn't sustain a block vs ndsu front 4.

So due to a couple of injuries, we should be okay with getting our tails whipped?? I am sure nick Saban shares the same mindset.

Isu should provide refunds to all redbird “fans” who paid money for that game yesterday. It was embarrassing on all levels. I only hope potential recruits were not watching that. I read one of the bisons top players was from Chicago and chose them over ISU. This will only continue to happen after beat downs like that.

Lyons and his cronies (spack included) owe us all an apology for that poor performance. Didn’t I see a bunch of isu fans asking for college gameday attention for that game?? HA. Wake up redbird fans, you’re all wasting your time and money

Last note, as I tried to get a drink and use the restroom at halftime, the men’s bathroom floor had water all over it, and an older gentleman had fallen and EMTs came to assist him.

Get your crap together isu. A lawsuit is probably forth coming

Maybe it's the O line that is the weak link? No push on short yardage? No consistent pass blocking, leading to unsteady passing by Davis?

I note that prior to yesterday, NDSU was giving up an average of 97 yards rushing per game. Butler 88. North Dakota 68. Delaware 125, and Cal-Davis 110. So, there's prolly something to say that when you get behind you have to pass, so the stats could look a little better than the "really" are since teams have to hit the air to catch up to the Bison. SO . . .

The Birds gained 79 yesterday. Less than Butler (who may have been facing NDSU backups), less than two other ranked teams vs NDSU. And us with one of the best backs in the land.

Somethin's gotta get fixed, soon.
