Way too many teams ahead of us, I'm afraid. We could use the practice, but I don't see it.

nearly every one-bid conference would need to have their regular season champion win ... even then, if the Valley does get another team, would it be the birds or the dawgs?

not enough cache'

And that has been the case. There's been a few regular season champs in these one bid leagues who have lost their tournament.

Just for fun I looked at RPI and Sagarin. I don't remember there being such a huge disparity in prior years. Interestingly RPI says we should get a bid (but I wouldn't expect it.

Loyola - RPI26, Sagarin 61
ISU - RPI 83, Sagarin 135
SIU - RPI 101, Sagarin 151
Bradley - RPI 105, Sagarin 145

So... I'd say it's us or nobody for NIT but I generally agree with everyone else that's it's likely nobody unless all the small conference tourney one seeds win - which already isn't happening with FGCU and Murray State going down.

Perhaps Elgin has a good relationship with the selection committee and the MVC (we) get a nod. I figure that's the only shot.

Murray State won the OVC tournament...

Bad news. FGSU won regular season championship, but lost in conference championship to Lipscomb. That's one slot for NIT.

If RPI is dead, then NCAA selection committee should come out and say it plays no factor in determining whether a team is in or out of the Tournament.

I realize you're only passing along what Bilas said.

Jay Bilas said during the Iona game that RPI is dead...until the committee is deciding between between a power conference school and a mid-major.

There, I fixed it for you.

Rpi isn’t dead. It’s on every team sheet as the first performances based metric.
Also the quadrants....are all records based on rpi.

The NCAA committee won't say that though because they need something they can point to randomly and say that is why a mid major didn't make the tourney.

Between that and the quadrant BS they are trying to tout now, it is all just a way for them to justify multiple 17 and 18 win P6 conference teams with sub .500 conference records getting in the tourney.

It's a completely moving target every year. They say this/that does/doesn't matter during the run up to Selection Sunday, only so they can then pick and choose whatever makes sense to justify their decisions. The only formula is that there is no formula. An 18-win mid major only looks remotely sexy if they have a big non-con win or two, but they will then easily look just as bad if there's so much as one bad loss. Conversely, an 18-win P6 will automatically be in the discussion because they're guaranteed to have a few quality wins just by the conference they are in.

Also, I'd say it's highly doubtful the NIT comes calling. For one, we have plenty of damage (Charleston Southern, Drake, Indy St, etc.) and for another they're probably sick of putting us in that tourney :p

Yeah, it really is IMO. Certainly within midmajor realm. But here's the deal. Somebody catches a break. Somebody gets screwed.

Here's a crazy deal. Nebraska went 13-and-freaking-5 in the Big10 and some gurus are saying they're on the bubble. That is mind-boggling to me.

130 brackets on bracket matrix. 4 have Nebraska in.

Didn't play a great non conf. Resume is pretty weak.

They simply didn't play anyone in the non-conf.

Yup I realize that but a 72.2% winning percentage in B10 play doesn't carry any weight?

How do you explain it Humdinger? 126 out of 130 people don't know what they are talking I guess. Axe to grind against a BCS school from the Big Ten. Happens all the time right?

My point...Nebraska gets questioned because they're not a big-time program, despite 13 wins in the B10.

I get your point and roll those eyes, but THIRTEEN wins in a Power conference. Fair is fair.

Selection Sunday isn't necessarily fair, though. It's Nebraska's fault anyway. They should have went 18-0.

Nebraska saw its NCAA Tournament hopes end with that loss to the Wolverines. The Cornhuskers needed quality wins, but came out flat against Michigan. As it stands now, Nebraska is 1-7 vs Quadrant 1 foes and 4-9 vs Quadrants 1-2. The Cornhuskers also have a bad loss at Illinois. Even if you mentally upgrade the win at Minnesota, it's not enough to merit selection.
