Based off these numbers, we've consistently played above our budget during Dan's tenure.

I think it's evident that the problem lies with those above HCDM. Illinois State needs real leadership in the athletics dept.

I wonder do these include coaches salaries? I would assume that it does. I would be interested to see if you take that out (UNI paying Jacobson $1 million and his assistants) what it looks like.

Other Mid-Major budgets:

Been saying this for a while. Adams does this every year and ISU is always near the bottom. When Zenger left and Bowman retired the push to take ISU to the next level stopped and been stuck in neutral since (Friedman tried, but you can't be as aggressive as he was at ISU).

I know I will get called out for this. When Zenger took over in 2005 the ISU basketball budget was $1,172,444. His final year $1,991,617. An $819,173 increase over 5 years.

In 2013 when Lyons took over the basketball budget was $2,152,271. Now it is $2,209,131. An increase of $56,860 during the Lyons era.

Nothing to get called out about here, man. It just illustrates how ineffectual larry has been for this program. Win or lose over the next three days, he needs to go. BIGLY! Desperately! Immediately!

I’ll continue to follow the team, and grace this board with my wisdom, but that’ll be the extent of my fandom moving forward, until I see a commensurate commitment from the University.

Hard to make much out of this. Muller gets paid well. I don’t know what the assistants make. We don’t seem to fly any less than others, maybe Loyola Jets it more than we do.

I will say this is one of the first years where the recruiting buzz has been at an all time low. Makes you wonder what kind of work the staff has put in with at least 2 scholarships to give.

Thanks for the info. I guess we finished pretty much where we invested. Even Bradley spends more than us, of course they have to rent out the Civic Center where we own ours.

How do we compare with total athletic budget and total number of sports and athletes?

Could be that they spent more time trying to get the players on the same page and didn't have the time to recruit . . . Also, Duhon and Reese just don't use social media, so we don't see much from them. Appears Mullins uses social media, but also seems to follow the coaches/teams more than the players.

Recruiting never ends though. It’s constant.

Agree, wholeheartedly . . . but this team seemed to demand special attention . . .

Did some research this morning on ISU and how their budgets rank for each sport in the MVC. Here is what I found on the sports that have the 10 basketball schools as primary members (added in D Baptist for baseball).

Baseball - 4th
Men's Basketball - 8th
Women's Basketball - 6th
Track and Field - 4th
Golf (M/W) combined - 3rd
Women's Soccer - 4th
Softball - 1st
Volleyball - 2nd

We are number 1 in the MVC for spending on Women's Athletics total. Don't have men's rank because football messes up the calculation.

Interesting. Were dollar amounts published?

Is that right For UNI? Seems a little low with a football budget.

This number is just “administrative” expenses. I wonder what is calculated in this.

I tried to do some research and based on an ISU salary database I found, ISU spends about $3.1 million on what according to title 9 reporting are considered administrator salaries (administrators, support staff, and non sport coaches salaries (strength and comditioning coaches).

SIU for similar positions was just over $2 million. They also have less people working in their athletic department.

We will never know what ISU spends on “administrative” costs, but it’s interesting it is so much more than almost anyone else.
