SIU AD, Tim Leonard, was at Towson for a period of time. I met him for breakfast in Baltimore (Towson is a suburb) and we spoke about the fun we had in the 90's at ISU. Tim worked for ISU and was heavily involved in seat selection for season ticket holders.
Skerry makes a great deal of sense to me.

from what i am hearing via the papa mullins chicago network i would not be surprised if every saluki with a remote chance of a successful portal transfer leaves siu. players are fired up. firing mullins was tough but the way it was handled has been brutal to coaches, their families and players too. how it was handled has the players upset. hearing bryan mullins found out about firing from his wife after she read about it on social media. supposedly all assistants and players too were not notified and often found out first from friends and families. assistant coaches supposedly not to be given any severance period (ie 45 or 60 days) pay and their next paycheck will be their last paycheck and they/their families suddenly lose healthcare benefits too. if all true that seems overly cold and ,quite frankly dumb, given the portal opening a week later. siu definitely has extreme financial pressures purculating behind the scenes so who knows what went down.

given the active siu portal the new coach will certainly be able to immediately showcase his portal recruiting abilities and build his own team and culture.

Not sure I’d want to coach or play for a school that treats coaches like that. Next coach should get themselves an ironclad buyout that makes SIU think long and hard about firing and/or disrespecting the coaches.

And then the fan base will complain when they need to jettison him due to lack of performance and the buyout is an albatross.

Seem familiar?

I heard the players were told Friday morning on the bus trip back to the university. There were no coaches on the bus because they were departing for recruiting.

Not our school, so good. Let them have an albatross that keeps the guy around a year or two too long.

If you heard 'dat from Papa Mullins himself, then I accept it. May I ask, did you? I guess I just asked, huh? If you didn't hear that from papa, then I have a few more points to add.

Just don’t be changing the narrative. I like where this narrative is headed. ;)

Helps with the Chicago recruiting maybe? You only need one or two guys a year to make a dent.

So he's got Mullins and he brought Jack Owens from OSU. Decent start. Both former HC's.
I actually think they could build something at DePaul. I hope they do. It would be great for the state. It will be really interesting once Pedon gets into recruiting battles with Holtmann. We probably won't win many but it will happen.

But most Chicago Public School parents want their kids to get out of Chicago - because of all the crime and gang activity.

I agree. I also think Mullins knows a thing or two about defense, and you are more likely to get grinded out ugly wins with defense. Also there's a mass exodus from a 19-13 team in the valley. I'm guessing that team could have won 10 games Big East with the DePaul schedule and probably 3 victories in the Big East. Being in on some of those guys, could help get some quick wins to show progress.

I thought they already had ‘their guy’ lined up . . . Or was that just the rumor mill? . . . (rhetorical)
There was talk that the Morehead State coach was to be hired but then withdrew his name. Rumor is the WKU ocach wants the SMU job and the Morehead coach wants the WKU job. Clear as mud.
