As we know, a verbal means nothing. Commits don't mean anything until the kids get to campus. But could be huge for Dana to continue to grow. He's special.

Verbal Commits lists him as a 2* with limited offers.
http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/ford-cooper

https://247sports.com/Player/Ford-Cooper-46050255/
Listed as a 3* here. with again, little interest.

Could this be a bit of a Chris Payton situation? Early verbal commit and then gets word he will blow up throughout the summer and get more offers? Time will tell.

For what it's worth Verbal now has him up to a 3* because Rival marked him as a 3* and they tend to just either take the 1 ranking if there is only 1 or average ESPN/Rivals/Scout if there is more than 1 with 2* being their default if no star is provided.

247's Scouts also have him as a 4* and the 106th Ranked recruit for 2020 but when plugged into their algorithm (which I believe takes into account other public recruiting services, which either haven't scouted him or made their eval public) have him listed as a 3* and the 166th best recruit in the 2020 class.

247 also has an article out there about how he is starting to garner High Major interest, so I'll be curious too if he carries his commit all the way through or if someone gets in his ear.

247 has him as 3-star (as of this moment) with Yale as the only offer . . . https://247sports.com/Player/Ford-Cooper-46050255/

If he was truly 4-star and the only documented offers were Boston U., Tulane, Yale, and Mo State . . . that tells he was either over-rated, is not likely to be eligible, or there's something keeping the big boys away.

May very well be an absolute steal for Dana. Could also never make it to campus.

If you look through the link you pasted in, just above his stars it says 247 Composite, that's their algorithm that they advertise, which if I'm not mistaken takes into account other public rankings. If you look just below that in smaller text, it lists the 247 stars which I believe are assigned by their scouts. That lists him as 4 stars (which is probably where the tweeter got his info for 4*). There is also a link to their 2020 rankings there(both composite and non) which list him at 106(non) and 166(composite).

I have only seen rivals and 247 scout him at all, so my guess the 247 composite score is pulling in only those 2 ratings.

All that being said, as far as his offers go, it's entirely possible that the Bears were in on him early and got him before he got scouted as a 4 star for the 2020 class.

Illinois St signed two National Top 10 players - Bubbles & Cyrus Mann, and a top 25, Roger Powell. Lots of missouri st excitement, though, even though no highly ranked players on 247, who's rankings are by far the most accurate.

In all of the years anyone has followed ISU basketball....do you ever recall reading an article like this about Redbird recruiting?

https://www.news-leader.com/story/sports/college/msu/2019/06/24/missouri-state-basketball-aminu-mohammed-offered-bears-dana-ford/1545812001/

I surely do not.

I'm sure we would have offered Zion or Barrett but what's that get you? I guess if the end goal is to get publicity from a chincy news source.....ok

24/7 no more accurate than any of the others, IMO. Just like the others 24/7 will have some real good years and some years where they are way off the mark when ranking the players

That's probably because the high star rankings for the most part are just based off who has offered a kid, not necessarily how phenomenal the kid is.

We'll find out sooner rather than later if this kid is legit. He has reclassified from 2020 to 2019 and will be with MoState this season.

With the talent Dana has brought in, Mo state will be atop the MVC. He got a heck of a lot out of a team that couldnt score last season.

So Cooper hasn't shown up on campus yet, and he only verballed to MSU. I, honestly, hope that his reclassification to 2019 didn't prompt some P5 schools get into his ear and are working him to change his destination.

Another MSU recruit, Dajuan Harris reclassified from 2019 to 2020, so MSU released him from his NLI. He then verballed to Kansas and is now trying to reclassify to 2019.

Good for Dana on getting Cooper to campus. I question your thinking on Harris. If this had happened to Dan, I'm sure many on this board (you included) would be bemoaning his "inability to hang on to quality recruits."

I read that Coppin St. and missouri st. are kicking the tires on Samba Kane. He couldn't get on the -floor for a 12-22 team, but maybe he'll improve.
