In all of the years anyone has followed ISU basketball....do you ever recall reading an article like this about Redbird recruiting?

I mean we usually don't get any articles about potential recruits so, no.

It's great MSU has offered. Good for them. The kids quote wasn't the most encouraging.

"I’ve seen the team, I’ve seen how they play; I think they’re good," Mohammed told me last week. "Last year, they got some fans coming to the game. I think they need more people coming to the game. Some games last year, the fans screaming and shouting really motivated them to do stuff out there.

So they offered a top-15 prospect . . . and the local media is treating it as if it just might happen . . . unless the major programs come calling--which they're already doing--and steal him away . . .

We offered DJ Steward (currently a 2020 top-30 player) nearly two years ago, I guess we should've hyped the hell out of it, too.

Zion Griffin was a top 100 player in the country, and had us in his Final 4.

Even though numerous offers rapidly poured in within a few weeks, Griffin has managed to narrow his college choices to Kansas, Iowa State, Pittsburgh and Illinois State.

I am disappointed that we haven’t signed more 4-star guys, especially after Wichita was able to elevate their recruiting to that level and we seemed to be trending in that direction for a while. I think we would have had more success recruiting had the PLee team made the dance. Excited about our freshman class this year though. I think they will be very successful here.

It's Summer Vboy. You know what that means? Local Golf coverage! In fairness, to echo what others have said, we've never had recruiting coverage before until a kid signs from our local reporters. Great points by all regarding Zion Griffin, and DJ Steward. It's nice to say that offering 5* guys is easy but you also have realize the resources that go into recruiting.

From what I can tell- this was a no-risk high reward situation. Mohammed's brother is going to be a senior at MoState this year which is probably why he hasn't completely told them to get lost. The other thing is not many resources have gone into this offer. Greenwood Lab School is literally 2 minutes away from Mo State's campus.

If anyone could make this happen, I would put money on Dana Ford.... but no one can. Especially with him being a 2021 guy with another 1.5 years to blow up even more.

It would be nice to get an article once a summer listing all the outstanding offers and an overview of certain players. Props to the reporter.

At some point having too many outstanding offers doesn't make sense either. 22 offers and counting for 2020... if you extend so many offers, the offer may not carry as much weight for discerning recruits. Am I really your first choice or top priority or the other 21 recruits offered? Maybe I'm wrong .... I sure there are different philosophies.

Keep in mind, Verbal Commits won't remove offers if there is a coaching change. So the three highest are also three of the most recent coaches added to the league.

So ILST, BU, Loyola, UNI, Valpo, and INST are probably close to right. But also remember, we didn't know about Sissoko until he committed. Interesting information but take it with a grain.

Yep, the Redbird numbers seemed normal me. The MSU 22 offers per the article seemed to be an outlier and SIU seems to have offered so many players already. I just had to compare out of curiosity.

For what it's worth Verbal now has him up to a 3* because Rival marked him as a 3* and they tend to just either take the 1 ranking if there is only 1 or average ESPN/Rivals/Scout if there is more than 1 with 2* being their default if no star is provided.

247's Scouts also have him as a 4* and the 106th Ranked recruit for 2020 but when plugged into their algorithm (which I believe takes into account other public recruiting services, which either haven't scouted him or made their eval public) have him listed as a 3* and the 166th best recruit in the 2020 class.

247 also has an article out there about how he is starting to garner High Major interest, so I'll be curious too if he carries his commit all the way through or if someone gets in his ear.

Not sure about retaining . . . he wasn't at TSU long enough prove he could retain guys.
