This team continues to show heart
But it also makes a lot of dumb plays - 4 times stepping out of bounds one example
Schmidt had an impact but wouldn't know it from the box score (good call Timmy)
Strong saved our ass
This is much better than the last two years and will be fun to watch if they can clean
up a few things

Had kids sports obligations today, so could only see the overtime. What a gritty performance. Really fun to watch them come together and find a way to win that one.

Ya know something? We played defense tonight!!! Prim hurt us obviously but we shit down the rest of the team. Reeves stepped up big time in OT. Plus we made FTs. Not really sure how good this team is but sure a lot more fun to watch than the last couple of years.

Good win for Redbirds. Both Sy & Schmidt battled great against Prim. SWMSU played denial defense on Reeves much of the night- really taking him out of the ballgame until he started bringing the ball up court in OT. I know it’s blasphemy, but I‘d love to see the Redbirds run the Dick Versace offense that BU ran for Hersey Hawkins, continually setting off-ball screens for Reeves on the low blocks and letting him run off screens and pop out on wing back and forth.

When the Redbirds got the lead in OT they (Reeves) kept looking to score. That was critical. Way too many teams try to run clock and end up with a crappy shot or none at all.
Think that’s the benefit of playing a 3rd OT game already. MSU and especially Prim have much more experience yet they were the team shaken and lost composure late.

This team now knows what it takes to win these games. Learn from it. Cut down on unforced turnovers. Grow. Make us all eat our words about Dan.

That was a fun game. The crowd really got into it in the second half and the students were alive for this one. Prim is a man and Sy really gave it his all. That dunk he had was awesome. Nice to see Jo with a big game. Reeves was efficient with a quiet 22. This game has to be a springboard type game. Fleming had a really nice game. He just contributes in so many ways. Him and Freeman are a nice complement.

Strong was what we needed him to be tonite. Reeves was big in the final minutes of regulation and then OT. Twas his assist to Strong that tied us up in regulation. I really like that he decided to take over in OT and that he didn't settle for step back treys. As much as Chatman and Prim were tangling up, I can't believe those two were called for a combined TWO fouls. Freeman and Fleming combined for 10 of our 16 TOs, while Prim and Mosley combined for 12 of MOST's 16 TOs. Fleming did have 5 assists and 4 boards.

The thing that sucks is now we have to wait a month before another Valley game. Woulda been nice to take some momentum into the next Valley contest. Instead we'll be playing two weak teams, a D2 team, two meh teams, and then coming off the game with Wisconsin . . .

The on the ball defense and how we played the pick n roll was as good as I seen for a couple of years. How many times did we see a shot clock violation or a poor shot attempt as the shot clock expired. We went from Ole defense to hooray defense overnight. Stopping the penetration and playing the pick n rolls helped the team rebounding as well. We often start chasing the ball and get out of position for defensive rebounds. It was a welcome sight.

Prem played a great game going 13 for 15 but I really thought after the first 10 minutes we made him earn every point. Schmitt had his best game and McChesney was better. What a difference when you have some productive minutes from a front line. It's felt like in recent years we have been barely able to put one big on the floor and now we have Lewis, Chatman, Schmitt, and McChesney. They all have room for improvement but they are all making contributions.

MSU and ISU had the same number of turnovers but ISu had a lot more steals on the defensive side. On the flip side we had a lot more unforced errors. If we can play defense like we did tonight, start reducing the turnovers, and be more consistent, we could be competitive in the MVC.

Lastly, kudos to the students and fans that attended. There was a lot more energy in RBA tonight.

On the positive side we will be in first place the next four weeks

A lot of this has already been said, but wanted to put my thoughts out there. A great win for the program tonight. The crowd was really into it at the end. Muller, Chatman, and Strong all commented on how involved the crowd was and how it gave them energy. If there was a game I wish a recruit attended it was this one. Still would be nice to get Red Alert more involved - it is so much harder to run plays and communicate on offense when the crowd is loud. The players were really fired up about this win and they should be. Coach talked about getting fans back in the seats and how winning games consistently will do that. Fans need a reason to come and I'm hopeful this team can bring that life back for the sake of the program.

I would put Missouri State (Kenpom - 73) in the same tier as Murray State (Kenpom - 94) which is why this was such a huge win. The duo of Tevin Brown and KJ Williams could be compared to Mosley and Prim.

This was obviously the best game of the season for the defense. Missouri State has had at least 72 points at the end of regulation in each of their games so far and we held them to 64. The intensity was really there late in the second half and in overtime. If we can play at that level consistently we are going to be in every single conference game.

Another big reason why we won tonight was because of the three point shooting. We shot 13 of 23 from 3 which is unreal. That is not going to happen very often, but we did a great job moving the ball and shooting good shots. The free throw shooting (14-15) was another key factor in the game for us. The only one we missed was Fleming on the front end of a one and one unfortunately. We are shooting 74.6% from the line this year which is up from 66.1% from last year.

The biggest thing we have to improve on in my opinion is the turnovers. We cannot expect to consistently win games when Fleming and Freeman combine for 10 turnovers (on the other hand, Mosley and Prim combined for 12 😬). One thing I noticed in particular this game was Fleming jumping before knowing where he is going with the ball. Also, next time out we will need to figure out an answer for Prim defensively. He shot 13-15 from the field.
