I am with you with all of this except for Sandage. Were you wearing Purple Raider glasses? He was 0 for the floor and some of them were WIDE open. He had to play D for Burford because of Burford's fouls, but he was overmatched (probably not his fault). If he isn't making 3's (especially against a zone) then he doesn't have much use on the court. He was a liability last night, and we were fortunate to overcome it. He and Luke are similar players, except Luke is bigger and appears to be a better shooter and defender.
[Quoting Myself]Sandage was more under control.[\Finished Quoting Myself]
Sorry to shine sunshine up his butt so vigorously. 🤔🙄

He had 1 turnover, and it wasn't a total head scratcher. So he was....
say it with me....

More under control
😉

Very similar ending to last year's home MSU game. We tie it late in regulation and pull away in overtime.

Mal wasn’t on it before😂 lol? We all should want Liam to return buddy. He can become the next level guy.

Yes, I spoke the word selfish. As we can see when the ball moves this is what can happen. As long as they realize and see who they really are from the game last night then going forward could be a thing of beauty. That was by far the best team ball of the season.
Nope, Mal wasn't on it. He hadn't proven himself to me. The past few games he's seemed to lift his game up a couple notches. As for Liam, I agree . . . unless he continues playing the way he has the past few games. He has been worse than a black hole lately.

Winning cures all...including attendance. It's interesting (and a little sad) that we're around 5th in the league in attendance right now. Only Murray St, SIU and Indy St have eclipsed the 5K mark for a game - once each. NOBODY is drawing well.
Really get that attendance is down at every game in the valley. Was just surprising to see 1,400 people at a Redbird conference game. Attendance number in the box was 3,200 - it wasn't even half that. Maybe get a few more wins and we will be over 2,000 again. Team is fun and should help, but it is an alarming trend.

In my opinion, most NCAA rule changes over the last 30 years have been to help the individual stars stand out, not the team basketball itself. I have always been a big fan of pressure defense, a good full court press possibly my favorite. I have always been a fan of offenses that forced defenses to work and exploit that when it breaks down. I really enjoyed watching a team just physically wearing their oppoent down. These all have been basically removed from the game of college basketball. It doesn't hurt your power schools with the stars, but we see what it is doing to schools in conferences like the MVC that were known for good team defenses, structured offenses and players that stuck around for 4 years.

Attendance is not as much an ISU problem or even a Valley problem, but it is a problem created by the NCAA for all schools that aren't power schools.

As we've seen and I'll continue to say ad nauseum.. the Birds offense gets stagnant at times, what is a great way to get some points if you are cold from the field? Drive into contact and get to the line. That is this team's bread and butter. Casual fans probably won't like it, but it's is what it is. A Sandage once said after going 9-10 or something like that in an earlier game, "They're free." They sure are.

Pedon said postgame that he was playing for fouls. He saw early on in film how physical MoSt was and from his eyes, there were a lot of fouls. He was right. The Bears had 4 guys foul out and two others had 3, enabling ISU to shoot 30+. Kudos to Pedon for that. Ultimately, it was the FT line that won this game. The Birds made ONE 3ptr in the second half. They shot more FT than FG in the second half and OT.

To echo some on here, it felt like I was watching the Redbirds vs the Coach DM (most years other than 2016-17) Redbirds. Dana is a great, great recruiter and evaluator of talent, which is how he landed a spattering of high major transfers (who were role players at their previous stops) and a handful of MM/LMs most of which, started. However, I've said this about some other coaches...Dana doesn't recruit to a system. He either 1. Tries to teach the players his (a la Muller) or 2. Adjusts the system based on what players he has. His team will win games by out-physical-ing some team and out talent-ing some others. I'd be interested to see how his team is in close games this year.

Really good idea for Pedon to go offense-defense around the 8 minute mark with DB and Sandage.

Also, shout out to Joe Petrakis. The guy has found himself with no/limited minutes the last few games and remains the most vocal and active player on the bench. After timeouts, he is one of the last guys to leave the court because he is talking with the guys in the game. I see why on Monday's coach's show, Malachi said if he had to pick one guy on the team who would be the best coach, he'd picked Joe. It would be very easy for him to be less engaged but he is right there in it, every game. Good for him.

Also, Kendall started to look the the guy the team had at the start of the season last night. 12 points, 8 boards and some crucial makes and hustle plays.

Lastly, talk about balance in scoring (22, 16, 12, 11 & 10). There was some talk about they guys being selfish. I felt they moved the ball really well last night, despite only 6 assists.
Sorry you are suffering from ad nauseum. I had it my senior year but played all 60 minutes in a four overtime victory against Duke in an exhibition game. Too bad the game didn't show up in our history so I could prove it to all of you.

I was at the game ... 3200 looked about right
I was thinking about this the other day... the side that faces the cameras tends to be a little more sparse than the side the cameras is on. So, if you are just watching on TV, you won't see the couple thousand on the camera side.

Which is why I think it is weird that when I tried to buy tickets earlier in the year that doesn't let you chose your seat and it auto puts you on the side opposite the cameras.

I was at the game on Wednesday - as I have been for almost all home games since 1992. Around 3,000 or so is about right. There were more people in the upper bowl than has been in several years too. I know the "bench" side or West Side at one time was more of the "Corporate" seating side. Which is not the case right now. But, I do wonder a lot about the ticketing nowadays - with both football and basketball.

I tried to purchase two extra season tickets by my seats - no one has sat in the two small rows in front of me the last several years. I get told those seats were not available. Guess what - no one sits there this year, except on a few occasions - those people bought the tickets at the door. Go Figure that one. I have the same thing in football. Get told all of the seats around me at sold. I can usually take a ten-foot pole and swing it around and not hit a soul. Do not get it.

117 and 118 are where the President & AD sit, so I'm guessing there is something there.

We sit in 117 and it is strange. There are rows of season ticket holders that show up on regular basis and pockets of nobody on a consistent basis. Not sure if those are corporate or university seats that are unused but they must be relegated to someone but rarely used. I know some university employees seem to be on both sides of the 117/118 aisle

The cameras are directly across from 117 and the other side is generally filled better. It would be better from an optics standpoint if it were reversed.

FWIW We added 2 seats by us this year. Initially we were told they were not available (even checking after the initial renewal date). We almost switched sections but a week later
on a whim I checked and the 2 seats were available

I'm more interested in your finishing time of the marathon you ran earlier that day before the Duke exhibition.

Very well said. I am one - I know most younger folks will not like this - but I do NOT like the 30 second shot clock. I can live with the 45 second clock - Oh for the Donewald Offense - work and work and work the ball - if you take a minute or so off - so what. It takes a decent team to not turn it over in that period of time.

This has now been fixed and the old seat selection is back. Thankfully

Reminds me, I wanted to buy an extra ticket for the UNI game, and it was a struggle. On an iPhone and Kindle, when you chiseled down through goredbirds and get to selecting a game it said none were available, and to check back in October some time I think 🤔. Worked fine once I switched to a PC where I could select any game, so thinking there could be a technical glitch with mobile devices, in case anyone from ISU happens to read this. Unless both of my devices are funky 🤷, not out of the realm 😎

I also had the same issue where the mobile site was not working for tickets around that same time. It was system-wide. Was able to purchase on the PC and the issue has been resolved (for now).

I called about this. You have to select your ticklet without being logged in, then log in when prompted at checkout.
