My point was really they could play him next week or the week after, but already, even tho they've only said they're "open" to the idea of redshirt, everyone has concluded it's a done deal. I don't really care when they play him if he helps us win some games - play him when he's ready to help. Now, January, whenever. If he sits out Lourdes, big deal.

I'm more with Quinn on this one. If he's hurt and can't heal, redshirt him. If he's healthy, let's go. I want to see him this year. Ryan raved about him. If we're expecting kids, in this era, to stay at dear old Illinois State Teachers University for 5 years...well...haha. Redshirting kids in this era...that's a big risk you're taking in locking up a scholarship with zero guarantees.

Now IF Chase asked/asks for the redshirt, then so be it. That's fine and I'm all in.

Dinma Odiakosa took a redshirt year. I think he might have done it after his freshman year though if memory serves. Either way he took a redshirt and still played 4 total years for us.
Dima is a good example where it turned out well. We are talking about 15 years ago. Without researching, I am guessing we have redshirted a large number of freshmen since then, only for them to transfer before their 5th year at ISU. I am at the point I never want to redshirt a kid anymore if he can help us as a freshman,

The other thing to keep in mind is we still are not back to "normalcy" in college basketball. I'm talking about 5th, 6th, 7th year seniors due to COVID. We have a ton of guys on this team still benefiting from extra eligibility. It really harms freshmen like Chase. It also has pushed a lot of D1 players down to DII and DIII. There is still that log jam of talent and experience. Redshirting makes sense to me. We will see what Chase and coach ultimately agree on. It sounds like everyone is on the same page, so I don't see any reason to worry about it.

So lets say he plays in 6 games this year, averages say 2 mins in each of those games, and averages, lets say a 1 pt. And then he transfers after his sophomore year. Did we get our scholarship worth? Did he?

My point is this I guess, you can only play so many of the 13 scholarships you use every year, and kids are going to transfer regardless of how many years they use at our school, and how many they have left, so a kid redshirting is likely not going to be a loss in the grand scheme of things.

I agree. If Chase is on board, I think it's a good idea for his development. It also let's others play more which probably helps the retention of other players.

I guess my big confusion is the comment from someone about how dominated at the closed scrimmage. Then I hear he labored vs IWU and now didn’t play vs Lourdes. 🧐🧐
Dominating in drills and short bursts of scrimmage does not always translate to games. Remember he has been hurt and missed some significant time this offseason. Practice shape and game shape are entirely different.

I wouldn't say he "dominated" in the closed scrimmage. He played well. He mad hustle plays and was diving for loose balls. Its a lot of body to be hitting the ground. He also passed the ball very well. I believe he had assisted on three or four straight possessions. In that and the IWU game, I didn't ever see him as gassed. I thought he moved well and played his role.

I parked in F64 health sciences building. Says unavailable? Assume that’s bc they don’t want you parking in free lots?

I think so - those lots are supposed to be fair game after 7 pm on weekdays and all weekend. I usually just park by the student accounts building and haven't had any issues.

I'm still waiting to hear from someone about the shuttle.
I was told by the ticket office that it will not be offered this year. Guess getting the $10 charge to park in the North & East of Hancock lots won out over the free shuttle.

Apparently, trying to raise more revenue. However, older fans may not be able to navigate the walk fron those lots especially in Crappie weather!
