To me there is no real difference between the redbird room and legends room. What they need to do is upgrade the concession food quality so they can have another reason for other than red sweater die hard to attend the games.

Nothing about ISU athletics is first class. That is why they charge you a ton of money to buy anything in the football club seats. It's about making money over providing a first class experience for fans.

The Redbird/Legends room are great if you have never left the ISU bubble and been anywhere else.

My bro-in-law has a box at Wrigley. The food there is great. We usually get beefs and hot dogs and a veggie tray. Nothing really fancy, but really good. And he pays through the nose for it. People will pay for a first class experience. They laugh and walk away from scrambled eggs. Where does the Redbird experience exceed expectations?

So Timmy, you think if we brought in the food to they do at Wrigley to the Legends Room, and charged what that do, many people in B/N would pay that? Anywhere in central Illinois?

I don't know. But I get your point. Redbird arena isn't going to pass for Wrigley any time soon.

I do know that given the choice between free crap or paying for quality I'll pay for quality every time. I'll pay more and I'll go there more. It's been a long time since I was down there. What I remember was a crowded room with warm beer. Nothing I'd ever go out of my way for.

So as it stands, the scrambled eggs are not much of a perk. So why wouldn't you go the other way. Sell your beer. Cold beer. Charge a couple bucks for a good Vienna hot dog. You might find that you sell some dogs and a lot more beer. I'ts a no lose change for the better in my eyes.

This I do know. Threads like this don't help sell the ISU experience. And this is a good place to cultivate new customers.

The Redbird Room is probably what it should be. A place where you throw out some pretzels and snacks on the table and have beer. It's a lower end donor room. (Granted they shouldn't charge you for the cheap beer and make up an excuse that they can't give it away so they can charge $5 a drink to make money).

The Legends Room is awful for what you donate.

Missouri State is a great example of what the Legends Room and the Club Seats at football games should be like.

I rarely arrive early enough to use Legend passes. I remember making it a couple times and once it was catered by Moe’s, and another time had BBQ. Both good, IMO.

May not be Wrigley, but then again, I don’t have to piss in a trough style urinal either.

Timmy, athletics has tried presenting events with high end food and refreshments. Not ever very well attended. The resounding response was that it was too $$$. I have been in suites and events at Wrigley, Chicago Stadium and Soldier Field. And I have been involved in producing events at those places. And I have produced such events in central Illinois. Very rarely do those pricepoints up there ever fly around here for anything.

What flies around here, are events catered by places like Times Past, HyVee, Moes, Avantis, etc, etc. I have never been to the Legends Room during games. I dunno what happened with this eggs and bacon bits deal at the last game. Does not sound good to me. Perhaps Times Past had a bad night. Athletics has had a long relationship with them and other similar local restaurants and caterers. For what revenue is garnered these vendors have seemed to work best. You are gonna say we should aim higher, and do better, and spend more, etc. But I know we have tried. And I have tried to go that route many times with other events. And it has not been as successful in my experiences. Yep, I am in places like Peoria and Springfield and B/N, so I have come to understand why. Especially a regular season ballgame for pretty much just halftime grub.

Times Past is usually pretty good in the Legends room. I will count this up to that they tried something different with an early game, and quite frankly it didn't work. I personally was disappointed with it, but the guy I was with really liked it. To each his own I guess. My favorite every time is Moe's! Goes great with Beer (just wish it cost less). I would like to see them go to one free drink with your pass then charge. I can handle 2 beers for $5 or 3 for $10.

It takes $3,000.00 to get in the Legends room per season, and you get parking on the East side of Redbird Arena. The first year, all drinks were free, now they’re trying to make it a profit center. I’ve given a lot of money over the years but they’re pushing my limit. I know people that pay that and don’t even eat there, just get the parking. It could be a real winner if handled right, but they keep raising fees, and don’t produce on their end. We need a change for the whole system, I see no marketing around town like we use go have, I hear the fan base, and no one listens. If they think new lower bowl seating needs to be raised, they may get a big surprise. All games are televised, better be producing on their end or we may not see the arena ever filled again.

They have about 6,000 tickets available for a national televised game for First place on Saturday. I’m assuming they will just hope people show up instead of going out and engaging students and fans.
