This is where I'm at. I know the major emphasis of this offseason was improving the outside shooting. ISU has taken a big step in doing that by adding Skunberg and Wolff. I see a glaring need for a forward who can control the glass and defend. I really don't think this player is it. But, I guess time will tell.
If what we have is next year’s roster then the individual pieces hopefully have some significant synergy effect as a team. Otherwise could be pedon’s last year given that there is likely a new sheriff in town. Still very surprised by the lack of roster turnover as respects to the bottom half of our returning roster.

I know nothing about Boser or Valdosta State, so don't have much to offer. Looking at his bios at VSU and UMKC, looks like he put some weight on but game stayed the same? Listed at 6'8 200lbs at UMKC, and bio says he "made a name for himself as a three-point specialist". At VSU, he's listed at 6'8 230 lbs.. 4.5 boards basically both seasons at VSU, so doesn't appear to be a huge inside player even tho he beefed up. Took the most 3's on the team at VSU last year. Looks like he hits a fair percentage.

I think most of us would like to see someone more inclined to beat the boards? Who knows, maybe Pedon sees something there if turned loose. Maybe he figgers a healthy/older Chase + healthy Lieb = better inside game? I'm still waiting for the Coke machine! ;)
Agree. Kind of KLew (has size but likes the three) like I guess, but we need a Foster too. Could be that this kid fills a need for a player leaving we don’t know about too.

I love your optimism, I do. You can hope for a nice jump between a player's Frosh and Soph year. But can you expect a 5th-year senior to make any significant jump? I can't.
I also don't think you can expect a d2 player to give you the same numbers when he jumps up a level. Make that a level and a half. (shitty D2 to the middle of the road D1).
You know the old saying about chicken salad? Players win games.

Do we think teams in the valley with roster turnover would take banks, Lieb, Luke or Davis if they hit the portal may 1st or after? Probably not. But they are looking like core players on our team next year. That’s a problem. And the bar is so low for Pedon, that making the top 4 is a success. Would anyone bet major money this is a top 4 valley roster.

Pedon might be the most loyal coach in the Midwest. But it isn’t translating to success for isu. We don’t even have a clue if Walker can play more than 10 minutes a game without getting into foul trouble, but we have Lieb, who we aren’t sure can play an efficient 10 minutes a game period.

I hope this team does more than fill the last roster spot.

I'd really disagree with this. They aren't core players depending on how you define that. Banks is maybe the backup pg, Lieb backup big man, luke probably not in the rotation as it stands. Assuming things go to plan and no key injuries we shouldn't be counting on any of the 3 for a lot of scoring or needing to play really well for us to win. Smaller role players. If they went in transfer portal Lieb for sure would get grabbed by someone you just can't teach his size. He's not an all conference guy by any means, but he's a presence at the rim and can rebound which is needed for a backup center.

I agree Lieb is a backup center. Who's he backing up?

Explain how lieb is a shot blocker other than basing that statement off the fact he is 7’1? And he will be a backup? This roster is pretty thin inside at the moment.

And how do you know banks is a backup point guard next year? He played 30 minutes a game this year. What point guard have we added to steal his minutes?

I think what you posted is how you want things to go but our roster construction to this point might not allow these guys to see limited minutes.

I still like Davis as a guy that can guard 4 spots on the floor with his size. Although it was a low bar, his offense got better at the end of the year before he broke his thumb. Luke needs a shooting guru this summer. Otherwise he will be seating in Ryan's old seat.

Having a 7’1 guy standing by the hoop is difficult for most people trying to score at the rim, doesn’t even need to block shots but will alter them which is a big benefit to have. Johnny is absolutely starting this year, most likely at the 1 with banks backing him up, he got his feet wet last year and will be due for a bigger role. Pedon emphasized more shooting and size, guess who doesn’t have shooting or great size (Banks). With having Malachi back and adding wolf and skunberg, those will most likely be the starting 2 guard and 3 position locked up in some way which gives us the added size and shooting.

I think you posted what you would like to happen and that’s for banks to start, us to suck, and so you can keep being critical of the team.

I guess my questions are, is this all we can expect to come to Normal in the new normal, NIL, portal, etc.?

Is this all the coaching staff is going for because we want to be loyal to current players and we are hoping a couple sophomores improve greatly and two freshman come ready to play division 1 basketball?

In a what looks to be very weak MVC is fourth or fifth place really any kind of a moral victory?

Guess I was hoping for at least one impact player.

How often did we play Johnny at point last year?

And who are you to say I want this team to suck. I basically pointed out we have banks, lieb, luke and davis still on this roster and do not feel other valley teams would take them if they transferred. We have lost foster and with what we brought in, I do not feel we have bettered the roster to get into the top 4 of the valley. We are basically just hoping 4th-5th year players from last year get a lot better and our sophomores to be become stars.

Lieb didn’t make any difference for us inside with his 7’1” size last year. Teams basically figured out he can’t move, has no stamina, and prefers to roam outside the paint. They could just play 4 out and exploit Lieb with switches which opens up the lane. Unless you have a Zach edey or the guy from UConn this past year, you aren’t worried about rostering 7’1” bigs that can’t move in today’s game.
